Greetings all, Bob has ask me to post a brief message regarding what I know in regards to James Strong, of York Cty, PA To the best of my knowledge and both my research and family legend supports. James was known as James Strong prior to adopting the name of Schim Strang. It is reported that both names were on his gravestone however. The origin of James has never been known, and it could clear up a lot of speculation when it is discovered. In my research I have found two family legends. ONE : James, upon arrival in the colonies, was indentured for a period to Adam Emmenheiser and ended up marrying his daughter. It is during that period that he adopted the name Schim Strang and learned the German language. THIS IS THE MOST COMMON TWO: James was smuggled into the colonies, reason unknown, and changed his name to James Strong at that time and then indentured himself. If reason two is to be believed it would explain why no one has ever been able to find record of his arrival. The arrival of the Emmenheiser family is documented and copies of the ships log exist. I hope that this gives some insight to James, if anyone has additional information, I would certainly welcome it.
