In Benjamin Dwight's HISTORY OF THE STRONG FAMILY, he lists the following family. Dwight notes that James was sheriff of Cuyahoga County. Descendants of James Strong 1 James Strong b: Abt. 1784 in <Conneticut> d: November 09, 1840 in <Ohio> .. +Ann Eliza Baldwin b: Abt. 1800 in Ballston, Saratoga County, New York d: March 11, 1827 in <Ohio> ..... 2 Ann Olive Strong b: Aft. 1819 in <Ohio> ..... 2 James Harris Strong b: Abt. 1827 in Ohio *2nd Wife of James Strong: .. +Laura ??? b: Abt. 1797 in Conneticut ..... 2 Mary? Note that Dwighy shows James as being the father of only one son, yet the census extract shows that four males between the ages of 5 and 20 lived in his household in 1830. Could these have been additional sons? Stepsons that came to live with him after he married his second wife ca. 1828? I could not locate a James Strong in the 1840 census for Cuyahoga County. According to the 1850 Federal Census, Jame's widow can be located in Cuyahoga County, Olmstead Township, #3616-3816: Laura Strong age 53 F $1,000 Conn. Fanny? age 20 F Ohio Frances age 18 F Ohio Louisa age 17 F Ohio Margaret Miles age 32 F New York Edwin age 9 M Mich. Alicia age 5 F Mich. Additionally, At the time of 1850 census, son James Harris Strong, born ca 1827, he appears to be living in Ohio, Cuyahoga County, Olmstead Township, #3456-3647, in the home of Hiram and Melinda Frisler. Both Hiram and James were listed as Carpenters, so perhaps James was an apprentence to Hiram. James was shown as age 23, born in Ohio. According to Dwight, James was the son of John Harris Strong & Elizabeth Cary. His father, John Harris Strong, was a farmer in Chatham, Ct. (1783-1811). In August, 1811, he removed to Euclid, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Here he was agent for the sale of lands in an about Cleveland (belonging to Lord and Barber, of Haddam, Ct.), and was Judge of the court of common pleas (1817-1823). I am trying to see if James Strong could possibly be the father of SAMUEL STRONG OF LAKE COUNTY, OHIO: THE FAMILY OF SAMUEL STRONG of LAKE COUNTY, OHIO In the 1850 OHIO CENSUS LAKE 220 Kirtland (Township) 85 16 Oct 1850 #124-130 Calvin H.
