Hello Deirdre... I will let Nicola respond further concerning her research of the connection of the South Africa Strongs to the Stonemason Strongs. However, for now, if you can lay your hands on the Strong Family Association of America's Vol. 5 of the update to Benjamin Dwight's 19th century compilation of the descendants of Elder John Strong of Massachusetts, you will find a listing of the descendants of a certain Timothy Strong, who was the "patriarch" of the family of Stonemasons who supplied stone from quarries in southwest England for the building of St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Note, Vol. 5 contains a compilation of certain Strong lineages, most of which DO NOT descend from Elder John Strong. The following link will lead you to a reproduction of the table of contents of Vol 5: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7530/sfaavol5.html You will find Timothy Strong listed near the end of the contents, with the following link to Martha Strong's webpage re the Stonemason Strongs. Martha has reproduced a portion of the descendancy found in Vol 5 for Timothy Strong. See: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/4715/stpaulstr.html I would be interested to learn from either you or Nicola whether "the line of THOMAS, brother to Sir T. Veezey Strong, Lord Mayor of London (1910 /11)" can be linked to the Stonemason descendants of Timothy Strong, and how the lineage descends to the South African Strongs of today. Also, if ANYONE is aware of a living male Strong who is a proven descendant of the Timothy Strong lineage, it would be very interesting and most helpful if that person could participate in the DNA Study. Please let me know.
