    3. Hello Pete & Norma.... I have a little bit of info re Martin Strong and his brothers, James and Patrick in the Irish Strong Database. You can see the on-line version re Kings County, Ireland at the following web address: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegalstrongs/kings.htm You will note that the three brothers are mentioned in the database, based on information gleaned from "The McCabe List". See discussion clipped and pasted below. James was apparently interviewed IN CANADA circa 1823. A report of the interview indicated that he then had two brothers, Patrick and Martin who at that time were still in Kings County. I have had some email and other correspondence in the past with a descendant of James Strong, Trish Trihow. Some excerpts are also found below. I have a few other correspondants who have Strong lines originating in Kings and Queens Counties, in locations immediately adjacent across the county boundary line. I have copied this message to the other correspondants. Perhaps working together, you will all be able to make some progress. There are some very interesting questions about the Kings and Queens County Strongs, specifically as to whether they are related to certain other Strong lines in Counties Cavan, Monaghan, Longford. It would be VERY helpful if Pete would consider joining the DNA Study we have just initiated. See: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegalstrongs/dnastudy.htm Can you identify the relatives you found in Ireland for us?? Also, where in Canada did Martin and his family settle? That information could be very helpful in regard to further research. I look forward to hearing further from you. James was married to Ellen Cronin. I am interested in finding more information on this Strong family line. Thanks." ================= Note, See Records #2521,2522,2523,3171 ==================== Date: Sunday, December 28, 1997 8:19:46 PM From: IN:STRONG-L@rootsweb.com To: Dbsandmd Topic: Strong family from Kings County Hi Trish... Thanks for visiting my IRELAND file at the "Researching Strongs in Britain and Ireland" website! I think the information below will be of assistance! The three records you asked about were derived from what is known as the "McCabe List"... Basically the McCabe List was compiled as of 5 February 1829, by a gentleman named McCabe who interviewed a large number of "Irish" immigrants then living in the Otttawa Valley of what was then Upper Canada, now Ontario, for the purpose of obtaining the names and addresses of potential additional immigrants who were then still in Ireland. The McCabe List is presently held in the Public Record Office, (PRO) at Kew, in London, England. It was republished in 1991 by the Ontario Genealogical Society in it's publication "Families", in Vol.30, No.2, at p.77 ff, with the info you are interested in appearing at page 87. Apparently James Strong was then residing in the Ottawa Valley, with a wife. A coded entry also indicates "two families", which may refer to the two families of his brothers, then still in Ireland. Our IRELAND file record contains the following transcription from the McCabe List in the remarks field: James Strong, #649, "Has two Brothers, Patrick and Martin, both with large families; Residence Kilcoony, near Portarlington- they are known to the Revd Mr. Webb of Said Place. Code entry for James indicates 1 male, 1 female, 2 families." Collation of the place names with other info available to us indicates Kilcoony Townland was located in Raheen Parish, in the Barony of Raheen, in King's County, also known as County Offally. I am taking the liberty of publishing your inquiry on the STRONG-List as we have a couple of other researchers interested in Strong/Strange/LeStrange surnames in Kings County who might be interested in this information. Can you share with us any other info about your line of Strongs? I suspect there may be additional information concerning your line to be found on a diligent investigation of the proper records. Please let me know if there is any thing else I can do to help "point you in the right direction"! Are you now a member of the Strong List? If not, please consider joining the list and sharing your info in open discussion with other researchers. Regards, David B.
