My wife Daphne (nee REID) is descended from the Irish L'ESTRANGE or LE STRANGE family as you will see from the attached tree. Her parents emigrated from Dublin to New Zealand in 1923 and we shifted from NZ to Tasmania in 1972. Most of the information came from unpublished family histories, some of which are included on Patrick Harris's website http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Stage/7818/lestrange/ls11.htm . This has been checked and revised recently with the help of John R Mayer's 'Extraneus, vol 2, Le Strange of Anglia and Eire' (2nd ed, Arapacana Press, 2002). The first member of the Norfolk family to settle in Ireland appears to have been Richard LE STRANGE (c1516 to before 1590) who took up land in Co Roscommon about 1545 and lived at Castle Lestrange. John Mayer has Anne L'ESTRANGE (born c 1629, daughter of Thomas L'ESTRANGE of Moyston, King's Co, born c 1608) marrying Richard WARBURTON, MP Best wishes from Tasmania Don Gregg
