To all... A quick update re the progress of the DNA Study. We now have six sets of results, interestingly enough each presenting a different haplotype. This will present some opportunities for further discussion and comparison when we have additional results from other participants. At present there are 19 members of the study.... and there are others who are interested in joining. The process does take time, and when we receive results depends on various factors, including when the sample is submitted by the participant, how long the sample is held by FTDNA prior to being sent in a batch to the lab for testing; whether the lab is able to get a valid set of test results on the first attempt, or has to retest; and so on. For participants and other interested on-lookers, all I can counsel at this point is to get your samples submitted so the process can be started, because it does take time... and to be patient. This weekend I received results for two participants. One had 12 marker (STR) results just three days ago, and now we have his remaining 13 additional marker results (PP3) this weekend. I also received PP3 results on another participant which we had been awaiting since receiving his 12 marker STR results Dec. 15th! At present we have just six sets of test results. All of them present different Haplotypes... which I see as an opportunity for others to compare. Further, we have 13 additional sets of results in various stages of process, which will need to be presented in due course. But, the project needs proper presentation and an approach which will both generate further participation and at the same time re-assure people that "we are doing it right". I hope to present the results in a fashion which will be usable to all without disclosing whose particular DNA is being discussed. And, I might point out, we don't want to identify the particular participants with their DNA results because it could result in their results being broadcast around without sufficient thought being given to privacy concerns. I have mentioned in a prior message that I am working on a "results" webpage. That is true; however, I have been sidetracked a bit by personal concerns.... a family funeral; reorganizing my office; need to address some fiduciary responsibilities I have re Federal Income Tax preparations for some trusts I am involved with; and the like. Life has it's complications. I DO intend to get the results page done relatively soon... and I appreciate your patience and forebearance; together with your continued interest in the DNA Study and it's results.
