Barrie... Thanks for your message. It's been a while since I concentrated on the L'Estrange lineage, and I am afraid my memory on the question you raise concerning the link between the Irish L'Estranges and the Norfolk LeStrange lineage is a bit shakey at the moment. Have you tried contacting Patrick Harris in New Zealand, per my earlier message? Patrick is much more knowledgable re this lineage than me.... and there are some other researchers who may also have some insights as well. I will copy them on this answer and hope they can leap in ... As to your question re the construction of the DNA Study, you are correct that we need to establish the prototypical Haplotypes for the various lineages. However, we might never get the job done if we waited for someone to step forward who could claim that prototypical haplotype and volunteer into the study. We need any and all interested participants to step forward as soon as they can. There is always the possibility that THEY may be the prototype we need ... and there is also the possibility that they might provide the necessary linkage or match between subordinate lineages. I should re-iterate the point that the study participants MUST be male Strange/Stronge/Strong/Strang/L'Estranges, or other variant spellings. The Y chromosome testing involved descends from father to son over many generations, relatively unchanged (there is a mutation rate estimated at one in 500 years... which must be dealt with). However, as females do not have a Y chromosome, we can not follow the lineage to a male descendant of a female member of the lineage. The linkage is broken, and the male descendants of a female will have the Y-chromosome patterns of their fathers... whether Smiths or Jones' or whomever. Regards, Dave Strong ...
