David and Bill- In my attempt to sort out the Howick Strongs, I found that the 1986 paper written by Jeanette Strong has an error in it, as does the website. John Hiram Shaw's wife Margaret b1830 had the maiden name of Strong and her father and mother are buried in Gorrie cemetery. It is her parents (John and Mary) not JHSS' who are shown at the top of the family tree. JHSS is shown in the Cdn 61 census as living with his parents, William and Mary. Thus at the top of the tree should be William (1779-1863) and Mary (1798-1866). I am not sure about John (1790-1871) and wife Mary. He could have been a brother to William since they share the same cemetery plot and he is about the right age. It might be clearer if we called William's family the Strongs of Brant and Huron. William was in Brant in 1847 with family as is shown in the website, in that father and sons George and William were in trouble for building a place on the Indian Reserve. With the exception of my GGrandfather the remainder of the family-i.e. father mother, four other sons and three daughters all appear to have ended up in Howick Township in Huron. Many are buried in Gorrie cemetery. I have not yet found any relationship between William's family and other Howick families of that generation. Presumably the connection, if any, is in Ireland. I will continue to check.................Don Strong
