Hi Rene', I had hoped to get back to you sooner, but I was on my way to my weekly hair appt. You know how it is, you would not want to miss or even be late for that! Then this evening, my hubby has had to be online, and had jobs for me to do online - we share an Internet connection. Everything conspires to keep me from writing to you today! How thrilled I am to find someone, anyone, especially one interested in genealogy, who is working on this family! Now let me say first, I am not descended from THIS Strong family, but from his widow, Elizabeth. Her name is in a Pumphrey family Bible, along with her birth date, but not place or parents' names. In the records in Washington Co., PA, her 2nd husband, Nicholas Ridgely Pumphrey, becomes guardian for her three Strong sons. Her son Samuel is a witness to Nicholas' father's will in 1812 in Brooke Co., now WV, then VA. It is quite obvious and recorded in the Bible who she is. Elizabeth outlived her husband by almost two years, and they both died in Fayette Co., IN. I have seen will book indexes, and they are shown in more than one place! but Nicholas' will says he is of Fayette Co., IN. In his will he names a couple of orphan children who lived with his family, one of whom was Rebecca Strang, which I believe is a variation the Strong list includes. Hm. I am a Strong descendant on a completely different family! And, no one in my family is named Strong, so no possibility of DNA. They want male descendants. I daughtered out of Strong in the early 1700s! I am an only child, my father was the only son in his family, his father an orphan. DNA just does not seem to be appropriate in my family. Worse luck! I wrote to my Strong Family Association some years ago, asking abt this Samuel, and they know nothing abt him. I know nothing of other Strong families, in this or any other area, except Puritan Massachusetts! Nathaniel was not one of Elizabeth's sons, according to the records I have seen. I suppose he could have been an older son, who would not have needed a guardian in 1792 when Elizabeth and Nicholas married? Yes, the land could have been sold under the Pumphrey name. That is something we should look into. Having said that, just Monday, I received a letter from Larry Pumphrey who has researched that family for more than 25 years. His long-awaited book has been published! It is he who saw Elizabeth's name in a family Bible and recorded it. He knows nothing more, sad to say. But his book may have something abt the land? I can write to him and find out if he knows anything more abt that. I am list administrator of the Pumphrey mail list and have put queries out on that list as well. So far, nothing. Well, is there anything more different from Alaska than Louisiana? Probably not! We will have to keep in touch on this. Oops, sorry listers, though I was replying only to Rene'! No matter, there is nothing personal in my msg, you can all listen in! I will get back to the list with my own Strong descent later. Joyce
