Hi Karen, Long time! It's good to see mention of Tabitha Strong (#327 way below). This Tabitha Strong is still #1 on my list for wife of my John Tickner, but I'm no further in my quest than last time we traded emails (1998). Have you learned anymore about her? For others who might be able to help: John TICKNER (possibly sometimes spelled TICKNOR) served in the revolution of 1775. He was born 5/7/1750 in Sharon, CT. He married Tabitha STRONG of Salisbury, CT, 4/30/1772 in Sharon, CT. John died about 1796. Tabitha died about 1825. They had 6 children. 6i. John Ticknor, b. 1/12/1774, Sharon, CT; d. 10/10/1819, Suffield, OH 6ii. Elisha Tickne!r, b. 2/26/1777 (not 2/6), Sharon, CT; d. 3/9/1845, Chemung, NY; m. 3/11/1804, Sharon or Cornwall, CT to Sybil Todd, b. 2/4/1782, Derby, CT; d. 1/13/1882!, Cornwall, CT or nr. Rodman, NY (dau. of Eunice (Hancock) and Daniel (aka David [mahood]) Todd; Elisha and John lived in Rutland, NY too; served in War of 1812; 11 children named in bible. [jtb line, jbleaux@aol.com] 6iii. Stephen Ticknor, b. 3/17/1779, Sharon, CT; d. 8/20/1858, Sharon, CT 6iv. James Ticknor, b. 3/11/1782 (no further record). 6v. Elijah Ticknor, b. 5/22/1783, Sharon, CT 6vi. David, b. 8/25/1784; to Ohio 1810 w/bro. John, returned unmarried. My question: Is there any hard information that links John Tickner's Tabitha Strong to Enoch and Sarah Strongs' Tabitha? I for one, appreciate when someone sends me information. I certainly wouldn't criticize them in public for it. I'm sure this makes the SFAA secretary really feel good about trying to help people out. I don't understand why anyone else would be complaining. I have always appreciated any information which the SFAA secretary took the time to compile on my behalf. The secretary position is a volunteer position and I think that you are wrong to be publicly criticizing somebody volunteering their time to help you with your Strong ancestry. If you have a problem with something sent to you personally, then you should be dealing with it personally. My only complaint here is that you are clogging the mailboxes of list members with your personal issues. ~Cathleen In a message dated 1/6/2002 2:05:46 PM Eastern Standard Time, maritag@earthlink.net writes: > am receiving mailings from the SFAA secretary, with a huge > attachments, addressed to me personally. I am receiving mailings from the SFAA secretary, with a huge attachments, addressed to me personally. It took 20 min last night to down load so I could delete. I couldn't open it. I have sent a message to stop Thanks for your message re attachments and the list. I am just feeling some frustration and thought if I brought it to the open for discussion it might stop. Hopefully others will complain about what is happening too. Thanks Marita
Marita, Rootsweb, which hosts our list, does not permit attachments to list traffic. We couldn't deliver an attachment to the list if we tried; Rootsweb just doesn't let it through. If you are receiving e-mail you don't want, there are steps you can take to stop it. If I can be of any assistance, let me know and I'll do what I can to help. I am requesting that materials sent to me are Strong history related and not cute, attachments. My system is old and freezes with big attachments. PLEASE PLEASE send only the "list" or personal messages. Recent items I have received have a 'spam' quality to them. They are not pertinent to my Strong Family research. Thanks Marita
Hello My name is Rene' and I am looking for ancestors of William Strong, born about 1830 in Connersville, IN. My current research indicates his possible parents could be William Strong, Nathaniel Strong, Thomas Strong, or Lewis R. Strong, all of whom settled in/near Brownsville, Waterloo, in Union/Fayette/Wayne Counties, Indiana in the early 1800's (1813-1820). I would sincerely appreciate any help/information anyone could provide on any of these families. Thank you.
Hi, Pamela, Cousin Pamela, I should say... if my calculations are correct,we are sixth cousins, sharing Thomas Strong and ElizabethLewis as 5th great-grandparents. If you haven't seen David Strong's website please have a look. It has a wealth of great well-documented information about the Southern Strongs, including a good deal about your line from Caley back to John Strong of New Kent Co., VA.
