What country/state is Gorrie/Howick in? donald Strong <donstrong@worldnet.att.net> wrote:I am attempting to determine the relationships among the Strongs of Gorrie/Howick and have read some conflicting records. I would appreciate any help that might clarify things. My GGGrandfather(William Strong 1779-1863) is buried in Gorrie cemetery as are his wife and a number of his relatives. One person buried there is a John Strong (1790-1871) who is probably his brother. John had a daughter Margaret (1830-1915) who married John Hiram Shaw Strong (1840?-1871). JHSStrong appears to have been the son of William. He was born on a boat in 1840? on his way to Canada. One of John and Mary's children-William G Strong is also buried in the Gorrie cemetery. Hello All... Barbara Way forwarded the following message to me.... Well, it was Christmas Eve, and we were kinda worried... the ground was bare and dry here in southern Canada. Sleighs don't run too well in conditions like that... and Saint Nick was due shortly. Luckily, however, a storm blew up out of Texas and Oklahoma and met with a little cold air up here, and things started to look up. We turned on the landing lights, lit the fire and got a rousing game of Guesstures underway. Soon it was midnite, and the snow wasn't yet here... We all said good nite, and left the cats to chase the mice.... while we settled down for a good winter's nap. This morning, we arose to find the chimney quite clear and a few presents around the tree. It's snowing steadily now, and there's some sleigh tracks on the roof.... so guess who was here!? The kids enjoyed the crazy "True Blue Australian Christmas" CD track we played, and got a kick out of Rolf Harris's "Six White Boomers" which Del Maw helped me track down last year! The new bike with 14 inch rims and training wheels Santa left for Grampa is a hit with the little ones, and they are looking forward to trying the short cross-country ski's with adjustable boot straps he left for Grandma soon as the snow lets up.... and we've all had some cheer! Our bright young grand-daughter who's working on a BS at Waterloo University and planning on doing her Master's and Phd... possibly in Micro Biology, promised to look in on our DNA Study's progress this year while she does a co-op term in Montreal.... Things are going well for us all! Here's hoping you've all had a Merry Christmas and are enjoying a Happy Holiday Season! Take care, one and all! {:-) Dave and Marilynn
Hi David My brother is a STRONG but unfortunately he is not into genealogy, so it would be silly to even ask him. He is the last of the males in my line. As Brenda said there is a few others males in the family - different branches, actually there is not very many to carry on the name at present date - that maybe interested but think the cost will be the down fall. Have a great Christmas and will catch up after the break. Pam http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~shamere/index.html Strong, Fraser, McMullen, Betteridge, BDM, Fencibles, Shipping, WW1 Soldiers
Wishing each and every one a wonderful safe, healthy Christmas Season and New Year. A big thank you to all who have helped me over many hurdles throughout the year with research, for all the interesting requests and their answers, it is amazing what you can learn from some ones else's questions, especially where to look and what has become available. May you all have a great research year in 2003. Merry Christmas Pam http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~shamere/index.html Strong, Fraser, McMullen, Betteridge, BDM, Fencibles, Shipping, WW1 Soldiers.
Hi Pam, To stick my 2 cents worth in here. You should ask your brother anyways. My father is not really into the genealogy either. I asked him if would do it for me & I would pay & he agreed (PERKINS line). Go in with the frame of mind that he will not & you might be surprised.
