Apologies to the STRONG list from Meg Scott for this posting to the list!. I inadvertently "hit" the wrong button. Sorry for the inconvenience, Meg
Hi, Sandy: I am sending to you a copy of a note I sent to Mary Ann last week. Please note my inadvertent error in the second paragraph of my cover letter in the package of HUNT/WOOD copies. I'm sorry that I did not see your message giving your number at the hotel in New Haven in time to call you. Thanks, Cousin Meg (note below) ============ Subject: Re: HUNT Authorities Date: Tue, 22 Sep 1998 14:04:43 -0400 From: Megan Scott <[email protected]> Organization: @Home Network To: MRS MARY ANN C STEWART <[email protected]> Mary Ann: Hope Sandy was able to visit you. I had an email from him from New Haven, but I had not been able to access my mail (and see the message from him) until after he had left there. I discovered a BAD typo in my cover letter with the copies. 2nd paragraph, "I found Ann HUNT, b. 1640/41....." Because I had been concentrating so hard on the given name "Ann" I entered that when It really is "Hanna". By entering the wrong name, I totally destroyed my evaluation of the HUNT/WOOD connection!! In the Boston records portion of the Concord VRs: Hanna the daught - (superscript - r) of Wm hunt was borne the 9(superscript - o ?) (11 [superscript - o ?]) 1640. I am not experienced in dating. Would that be perhaps Feb. 9, 1641? or 9th day, 11th month 1640/41? Savage says Feb. 12, 1641, perhaps baptismal date? Does Wyman in the William of Concord line give better information? Thanks very much. Everytime I start to box up the HUNT/WOOD material, someone, somewhere posts another query about it! Any possible material in Wyman regarding a Mary HUNT, married John GRANT circa 1650? Thank you, Meg Scott
Thanks, BoB... I don't know how many times I've written that line in the past couple of years. I lost count many moons ago. The one written above is a huge one. Mr. Robert T. "BoB" Strong, Jr., the man who started this list a couple of years ago, has retired as Co-Manager as of today. Many of us have gained greatly in our research because of BoB's tireless efforts. Each and every one of us has benefitted in some way, simply because BoB has been so generous with his time. He's still going to be here on the list; only difference is he'll be working on his research instead of all of ours. I've seen none better, before or since. So here's to you, Friend and Cousin: Thanks, BoB . . . With utmost respect and gratitude, Russell Laird
Hi All, I am looking for information on Jerusha Strong who is my wife's 3G Grandmother. The information that I have from an unreliable source, is that she was born 21 March 1789 probably in Vermont. She married Elisha Stanton (born Hartland, VT, 22 March 1782), 7 January 1808 in Crown Point, NY and died 14 April 1833 probably also in Crown Point, NY. Any information on Jerusha would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Don

IF YOU HAVE ANY INFO that might help me, PLEASE email me! Thanks & Good luck ! Rene aka [email protected] ================================================================ Hello, Rene! Your message is being forwarded to the Strong Genealogy Mail List, which includes many Strongs who are descendants and/or researchers of Strongs of New York State, particularly, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. You are advised to subscribe to the Strong Mail List and discuss your Strong family there. I can almost guarantee you will find some helpful fellow-researchers. Here is a URL address where you can subscribe online. http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/surnames/index.html You should search the archived messages for the Strong Mail List. Go to this URL to begin your search: http://newsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl My Strongs were from the "South" and I have few resources for Strongs who lived in the "North" of the United States or British earlier colonies. A major genealogy of the descendants of John Strong, the 1635 immigrant from Somerset Shire, England, to Massachusetts, was published by Benjamin Dwight around 1870. His descendants are now organized as the Strong Family Association of America (SFAA). The SFAA has published four updates to Dwight's genealogy plus a fifth update that includes families that were not proven to be descended from John Strong, a tanner by trade, and an "Elder" in his church. He is commonly called "Elder John Strong", although I find that confusing to neophyte family historians. Here are a couple of web sites where you can find out more about the SFAA and its publications: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/4715 http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7905 The only one of the update volumes in my library is STRONG FAMILY HISTORIES, Volume 5. There is one Adelbert Strong indexed. He descended from William Augustus Strong of Durham, Connecticut, and Buffalo, New York. Four descendants and/or researchers of the William A. Strong family are listed on Page 621 of the 1996 book. No John Vincent Strong was indexed in this volume. This William A. Strong has not been indisputeably linked to "Elder John Strong" but that connection is suggested by circumstantial evidence. Incidentally, names like Adelbert were often shortened to Elbert or Bert in legal and/or census records. I have an Etheldred (not a Strong) in my ancestry and found his name spelled half a dozen different ways; he had a son, Jr., whose name became "Eldridge" in legal and/or census records. And by the way, a word of advice: You are more likely to receive replies to your queries if you supply your full name and U. S. Mail address. I consider it impolite to do less. Your are commended for supplying data about your ancestry. Some enquirers do not have the courtesy to do that. Good luck in your search, "BoB T." Robert T. Strong, Jr. 119 Mystic Way Madison, Al 35757-8801
Hello All, Today is the first day of the Strong Discussion List without Robert T. Strong, Jr. at the helm! We who have been around for awhile know how much he will be missed. My friend and cousin BoB was the reason I became involved in the discussion group. He had the idea of creating a Database of Strong GEDCOM files. The server he subscribed to did not provide the necessary space to store the data files. So BoB ask for volunteers. I volunteered space on my server, but BoB has done all of the work of converting the text and other data file to usable HTML file so I could publish then on my web site in the STRONG DATA BASE. You must see the way I type BoB. Well back when space was at a premium and BoB read and corrected all of the postings to the discussion group, I typed his name that way to let him know it was a personal note saving him time. Robert T. (BoB) Strong, Jr. THANK YOU FOR THE FORESIGHT IN STARTING THE DISCUSSION GROUP! You will be greatly missed by all! Buddy I will be in touch! Jim P.S. On the SFAA Martha Strong has published a picture of the "John Strong plaque" that took on my vacation. The same picture is on my web site also. I am sure Martha feels as I do, this picture is for all of the STRONG FAMILY. Anyone wishing to copy this picture for their personal use may do so on my web site. Hi All: Spent some of the lunch hour today going through Ancestry....Found this info you might be interested in....My husband's line is the Parsons one mentioned, so I am always wanting to hear from related folks....The Abigail Parsons who married Thomas Hayden was a sister to the 3rd Moses in this line... Cornet Joseph> Joseph Esq> Moses>Moses> Moses> James Allen Parsons>Heman --Fred's great grandfather... I am most interested in this 3rd Moses, as he went from MA to VT in the late 1700's and early 1800's....can't find where he died, or where he is buried....Does anyone have this line? When the clash of arms occurred at Lexington, Mass., 10th Apr. 1775, and the news reached Windsor the next day, Thomas HAYDEN was plowing in his field. Loosening his horse from the plow and harness, he sprang upon its back and rode express, carrying the news to Suffield, arousing the country to arms. He was one of the "Lexington Alarm" party under command of his cousin, Capt. Nathaniel HAYDEN; served until July, 1775, when he was made Sergeant in the Simsbury Company, commanded by his brother-in-law, Capt. Ebenezer Fitch BISSELL. He was appointed Sergeant-Major, Eighth Connecticut Regiment, 11th Aug. 1775; commissioned by Congress Second Lieutenant, Seventeenth Regiment, Continental Line, 1st Jan. 1776, and First Lieutenant of the same, 1st Jan. 1777; appointed Adjutant to Col. Jed. HUNTINGTON, 20th Oct. 1776; and 8th Apr. 1777, at Danbury, appointed Adjutant to Col. Zebulon BUTLER. In Aug. 1777, he was in the recruiting service at Windsor. In 1778 he was honorably discharged, and with many other Connecticut officers returned home. He re-entered the service in 1781, and was appointed Lieutenant in a Provincial Connecticut Regiment; was made First Lieutenant, Connecticut Regiment, 20th June, 1782, and was honorably discharged with his command, after the close of the war in 1783. His first commissions, sword, orderly book, watch and ink-horn used in the Revolutionary War are in the hands of his descendants. Lieutenant HAYDEN was for fifty years an architect and builder, and his reputation as such led to his being selected to erect the fortifications at Roxbury, during the siege of Boston, 1775, which were considered among the best constructed in the war. m. 19th Nov. 1767, his cousin, Abigail PARSONS, b. 28th Apr. 1747, bap. ============================================================= Hi All, If you haven't checked out [the Social Security Death Index page at Ancestry HomeTown] website recently, give it another look. http://www.ancestry.com/ssdi/advanced.htm They have a free Social Security Index and new link that takes the name and social security number you choose and automatically inserts it into a form letter to send to the Social Security Administration. All you have to do is sign it and put it in an envelope with a $7.00 check and you're in business. I was quite impressed. It's free and a great service to all researchers! Sherri ============================================================= I have amended Sherri's letter, above, to include the complete URL for the SSDI Advanced Search at Ancestry HomeTown.. The hotlink to the letter that is mentioned does not appear until you do a search and the "hits" (positive results of your search) are displayed on the monitor. Following is a copy of the form letter. I was searching for Guy Strong. When I clicked on the hotkey for "Write Letter" [or whatever, located at the right end of the line of information about your "hits"], the appropriate data for that indivudual was automatically entered into the form. As Sherri said: All you have to do is add your signature and address, print the letter, prepare an envelope, prepare a check for $7.00, then mail the letter with attached check. I suspect that an Internet search for "FOIA Workgroup" will produce the correct URL that was previously mentioned. Just adding the double backslash did not fully correct the URL, at least not when I tried it (before I received Bob W.'s message). "BoB T." Robert T. Strong, Jr. 119 Mystic Way Madison, AL 35757-8801 P.S.: Hi, Sherri in Alaska! Thanks for your useful input. It is still quite hot in North Alabama. Record temperatures the past several days and not a drop of rain from "Georges". We are experiencing a fairly long drought. Many plants that were not well rooted did not survive the summer. But who are we to complain! We are blessed because it is not flooding as on the Gulf Coast. Re Carla Davenport's response--concur but watch out for the "informant" if one shows on any death certificate. Quite often informants may be next door neighbors etc who really don't know much but lend heresay to death certificates. Even so death certs. have much info for further research. Ansering Cora Lynn's query re Elder John. I don't know which is right but here is the dope from SFAA UP-Date Vol III. It may be outdated: Page xix: John Stronge s/o George Stronge was bur. Jun 14 1613 in CHARD Somerset, England. He was m. in CHARD in 1609 to a woman whose name is missing from the record.(Here follows the will of John Stronge). Then it shows children Elder John Stronge b. 1610 and Eleanor STRONG who m. Walter DEANE. Then on page xxii the following: Elder John Stronge s/o John Stronge b. abt 1610 in Chard......where he is buried...he m1 about 1632 in England, Margery Deane d/o William DEANE .....he m. 2d Abigail Ford d/o of Thomas and Elizabeth FORD etc (showing children by Margery and Abigail). i am sure you will get lots of answers but this is what I have as of 1992, date of publication of the UP-Date. Hi all, The correct ancestry is on the SFAA Page. The Update books carried what we knew when they were published. As with Murphy's law the minute it was in print I found different information. I. George Stronge a. Thomas b. John Sr. c. Walter II. John Stronge Sr. - Wife unknown Children: a.)Elder John Strong b. c. 1610. M. Margerie Deane and Abigail Forde. b) Unknown - Possibly William Strong of Axminster Eleanor who was thought to have been his sister has been proven a daughter of William Cogan. He named her in a land lease as "My daughter Eleanor Cogan". The William that was thought to be Greorge's son because of the will of Margaret Strong in Chard. She turned out to be married to a different William and they were both the age of George. Any new information on The English Strong's will be at the Ancestry site on the SFAA Web. page. If an ancestry is not proven it will state it as research etc. Jim Gilbert sent me a lovely picture of the tombstone at Bridge St. Cemetery for all of us to see. It is posted on the first page of the SFAA Website. Martha.

Dear CoraLyne, The information on Elder John has been updated over the years by new research and sources. The proven ancestry can be found at the SFFA Website: <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/4715/">SFAA Homepage</A> . At one time Elder John's mother was thought to be Eleanor Deane but it was proven wrong when she was found to be to old and married to someone else. The proven ancestry is George Stronge John Stronge m. Unknown Elder John Stronge m. Margery Deane and Abigail Forde. Martha
Hank: Most researchers love to help others and especially those of our surname groups, however we need some concrete documentation to go on. What does the death certificate of Charles Nelson Strong give for a birth place? This is where I would start. Perhaps that will lead to the place that Zachary was married. In turn it may lead to where Zachary was born. Do you have those documents yet? Have you checked newspapers for the obit of Lizzie? A good obit will lay a whole life before you. If you do have these items, please share the information. If you do not you need to obtain them so we will be able to help you effectively. Carla Davenport
