    1. Re: Thomas, Jr.
    2. Dear Jim, I have worked alot on the Thomas line. Bob Sheldon has done the most since he was the associate historian for that line on the update books. I have a corrected Thomas on the SFAA webpage for the first three generations in this country and will have the fourth done soon. Take a look. If you can add to it let me know. Contact Bob Sheldon to see what he has. My line is Thomas at the moment but I have a feeling from new information that it will be switching to John Jr. Just love it when you find a child misidentified. Oh well, Martha

    3. Good for you, Martha! You have got to be an open minded researcher to be able to switch horses in the middle of a race!! LaRee --------- I have a funny story for you all. When I started to research my husbands line I accepted what others like Dwight had printed. His family descended from the Thomas Line. While doing the work on the children of Elder John and making corrections and adding new information I have a research puzzle to solve. Once I have some time because I think two Israel's were assigned the wrong children and that means that my husband's line should be the John line. I won't effect any of you but it sure changes my husband genealogy. Oh well that is the way it goes. Martha

Earlier on, I wrote to each and every county seat in MA, searching, because I have his birthdate from his headstone, but came up empty. So on it goes. That's why I asked about the child Lorenzo, (I don't even know Lorin/Loren's full name) thinking this may have been his child. Thanks anyway. I appreciate you taking the time to try to help. 1. SFAA WEBSITE, CHILDREN OF ELDER JOHN
    2. Hi all, I have these children of Elder John up and running for three generations. John, Thomas, Jedediah, Return and Ebenezer. The fourth generation will bring them into the 1700 - 1800. Which should help some of you to find those that are missing. I have a funny story for you all. When I started to research my husbands line I accepted what others like Dwight had printed. His family descended from the Thomas Line. While doing the work on the children of Elder John and making corrections and adding new information I have a research puzzle to solve. I was wondering about one listing, the child, Lorenzo M.P. Strong who was b. 10-8-l838 and d. l0-l3-l838. Do you know who his parents were ?? I have an elusive Strong (oh, no, one of those !!!) by the name of Lorin/Loren Strong who was b. 8-9-l809, supposedly in MA. I can trace him once he hits Texas in l840 (listed as a single man) to his death in Texas, but cannot trace him back in time to parents, siblings, etc. He was approx. 31 when he came to Texas and I often wondered if he was a widower. 1. STRONG GENEALOGICAL NETWORK BIOGRAPHICAL AND ANECDOTAL SITE
    2. DBS &/or MD
    3. Hi Bill Strong (Garcia)! Thanks for volunteering to host a Strong Genealogical Network site! I took a look at your site, and have some suggestions, if you want to go ahead with development of a "Biographical and Anecdotal Website" for the Strong Genealogical Network. I suggest you look at the general qualifications for a website that is part of the SGN... William L. "Bill" Strong has posted them on the Strong Genelogical Network home page at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/5744/ You will note that the website should be "generic"... that is, of interest to everyone. Therefore, it would seem proper to prepare a webpage that would be an "Introduction and Table of Contents" to the materials included in the Biographical and Anecdotal site. Naturally, you could have a link to this page from your own introductory page, but this page would be the one that would be referenced by the rest of the SGN when advising of the material. My concept of the Table of Contents would be simply that it might start out by being alphabetical, but some other organization might appear later, as the material grows. The Table of Contents would then "hot-link" to other pages where biographical or anecdotal material is reproduced. The other pages would be of two types. First, material that is already published on the Web, such as "Life in A Newfoundland Fishing Village" by John H. Strong, which can be found at: http://home.earthlink.net/~lkstrong/Fishing.htm All that would be needed on your "B and A" Table of Contents page would identification of the material and a hotlink to the above page. Second, material like Wilma Fleming Haynes' material which started this discussion. Here, with her permission, you would probably want to edit the material for any spelling errors or add any explanatory notes necessary to set the context of the material, and then post the material on your website as a separate page, with an appropriate hotlink from the B and A Table of Contents. It would probably be desireable and necessary to protect the respective authors of each piece with acknowledgment of their authorship and notice of copywrite. BoB Strong might have some excellent suggestions about policies and procedures for doing this. It would also be a good idea to have a general "disclaimer" of responsibility for the accuracy of the information in the respective pages referred to... BoB Strong has a good section on that as well. You would want to have links back to the other sites on the SGN, and links to the authors of the material (email addresses as well as any other relevant web material, such as a GEDCOM site where the individual in the biography or anecdote is found). Ideally, links to your B and A site would be included on other sites where relevant. Management of the website would be up to you, with the advice and cooperation of other members of the SGN and Strong-List. Material could be proposed for inclusion by anyone who has an interest, but should be inclusive only of persons who are of Strong(e)/Strang(e) lineage and descendancy. I am looking forward to seeing what you can come up with... I have a couple of additional suggestions for individual materials which you could post. The first would be some material posted some time ago on the Strong-List re Capt. "Billy" Strong of Breathitt County, Kentucky... I will look for it to see if I saved a copy. The second would be material by John R. Mayer re Royal Navy Captain James Strange, which I posted in a message a while back. Perhaps other members of the list may have some suggestions or ideas... {:-) Regards, David B. 2. > I've always thought it was interesting that the Strongs > and the Motts were together once before!! > > Judy Mott Strong > Orange, CA Dear Judy...Thank you VERY much for what you sent, that is the closest to Vermont I have been able to get...she must be connected to that bunch wouldn't you say? Now to do "digging" there.. My husband and I have the same thing as the MOTTS & STRONGS.. When I found out that we were 7c & when I told him his comment was, "For heaven sakes don't tell our kids, they have enough problems as it is" (((smile))). I find it interesting you live in Orange...when I was a small child I lived with a family in Talbert (now Fountain Valley)..they were lima bean farmers..we lived just on the other side of the Santa Ana River. There was a huge weeping willow tree that served as our playhouse. They also took care of another girl..we were as sisters for many years until she died at the age of 16!! My aunt lived in Santa Ana Gardens..all that area was bean fields, Santa Ana Gardens wasn't too far from Talbert..I had lived with my aunt and we had running water, inside bath, etc...when I went to live with the Landrums in Talbert they had no running water in the house, an outhouse and I took a bath in a big round tub..after first papa, then mama, then Gladys and finally I had the scummy water...I hated it. But mama would always pour a pitcher of warm water over me and clean me up. Oh yes, the towel was wet and cold... I am glad I had those experiences..other wise I would never of know "the other side of life" The down to earth, hard working, Hard Shell Southern Baptist's. The minister had me scared me to death most of the time...I was always afraid I had "backslid! and besides didn't know what that was...but it was scarey! My aunt lived almost next door to the church so mama would let me go visit my family when they were home. Any way every Saturday or Sunday we would go to Orange County Park.. there we would play with the swans in the lake, & if we were lucky, papa would take us rowing in the lake...there were lots of trees to run and play in, a round building with a big porch with lots of chairs..this was a dance hall...often I would see my cousin dancing with his girl friend...how he hated it when I would find him and go out on the dance floor and tug on his shirt...(I loved him and he promised to wait for me to grow up so I could marry him)...HA..he married someone else!! Life goes on!! Mama and papa didn't want Gladys and I near the dance hall, they didn't believe in dancing...but I just couldn't stop my self from seeing my beloved cousin. (once he tied me in the swings, pushed me really hard and left me there..so he could have piece and quiet he told me in our grown up years.. hehehehehehe The Orange County Park holds a lot of wonderful childhood memories for me..we went there when it was a safe place for children to run in, they had long long ropes tied to the trees, I have never swang (is that a word?) or is it swinged so high..that is if someone would push us. They had little bikes we could ride for an hour.. There was a large area with very large stoves with a heavy metal top and wood piled near each one..people would cook their whole meals on and lots of benches..what fun it was to hear the cow bell to come and eat. There was a baseball field that the grownups would either watch or play baseball...there was always the pledge and then everyone would sing "take me out to the ball game"...that was a fun time for me. This was in the 1930's... Then one day a man hung himself in the park and papa and mama wouldn't let us run wild as we did before...we always had to stay in their sight. The man had kidnapped a girl or perhaps two girls and of course my ears weren't for what he did to them..but I can immange. From then on things were a little bit different. Also in the middle of Orange was a huge beautiful tree..the road went around the tree in a circle...3 of my children were born in St Joseph's hospital. We lived in Laguna and there was no hospital..my 4th was born in Newport Beach..a new hospital and much closer! Well, you have had a share of my childhood and a wee bit more!! This period of my life was when I became interested in genealogy and family...one never knows what will trigger the interest in family.. 3. Cherry Strong Hicks, Your elusive Lorin/Loren Strong may have his parents listed on his death certificate. If you know the place and date of death you can write the directory of vital records there for his death certificate. This may help you find his parents. I hope this helps you. 3. Hello Wilma, I have a book which mentions Strongs that were around Granville, Washington County, NY, Isle La Motte, VT and Wisconsin. I don't see the tie to Lydia just now - but I send the information just in case. The book is History of the Town of Isle La Motte Vermont by Allen L. Stratton. Stratton has proved to be a very reliable researcher for that area of VT. Here is what it says on page 417: Circa 1807, SETH STRONG, Jr. and family settled in Isle La Motte. He was a son of Deacon SETH STRONG Sr and LOIS (STRONG) STRONG. SETH STRONG, Jr was born 26 June 1743 at Northhampton, MA. He married DEBORAH BUTTLER, born 13 Oct 1749. They were married 12 Oct 1768 at New Marlboro, MA. It is said that he was a Rev War soldier. They had at least eight children - SETH, b 1771, CYNTHIA b 1772, CHAUNCEY b 1774, LUTHER b 1777, JOEL, b 1779, SOPHIA, b 1781, NATHAN, b 1783, and ALLEN B. B 1787. Circa 1790, we find SETH STRONG Jr and family settled in the Town of Granville, Washington Co, NY (US Census). Here his daughter CYNTHIA STRONG married on 1 Aug 1790 Capt CALEB HILL and they settled in Isle La Motte in 1803. (See HILL family in this book). SETH STRONG, Jr and family remained in Isle La Motte only briefly - 1807-1809. Where did they go? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SETH Jr and DEBORAH (BUTTLER) STRONG had a son LUTHER STRONG, b 11 Oct 1777 at Northhampton, MA. He married, 1796 in Washington Co, NY ABIBAIL WOODRUFF (1780-1873). They had at least eleven children - CALVIN b 1787, LOIS b 1801, MOSES b 1803, ORANGE W. b 1806, AMANDA b 1808, CYNTHIA b 1810, LUTHER A b 1812, and ABIGAIL, GEORGE W. CAROLINE, and RHODA. (Family records state they had nineteen children in all). LUTHER STRONG and family are settled in Isle La Motte as early as 1804, probably coming with Capt CALEB HILL and family in 1803. About 1814, LUTHER STRONG and family left Isle La Motte and moved back to Washington Co, NY, thence to Allegany County, NY. By 1830 they are in Potter Co. PA. LUTHER STRONG died 28 Nov 1857 and is buried in Dulalia Cemetery, Coudersport, Potter Co, PA. __________________________________________________________ SETH Jr and DEBORAH (BUTLER) STRONG had a son NATHAN STRONG b 20 May 1783 at (prob.) Northampton, MA. He married, 7 Aug 1805 at St Gabriel Presbyterian Church, Montreal, Canada SALLY WESTOVER b 5 March 1790 in Caldwell's Manor, Lower Canada. They had fourteen children, six sons and eight daughters. We list only those known - ELIZABETH b 1807, WILLIAM D. b 1808, SETH G. b1809, CHAUNCEY BUTLER b 1812, NATHAN H. b 1813, SARAH b 1816. NATHAN STRONG and family are settled in Isle La Motte as early as 1807. Here they remained until 1823/24, when they removed to Franklin County, NY and later to Wisconsin. NATHAN STRONG died 4 Aug 1862. His wife died 12 Aug 1852, both at Berlin, Green Lake County, Wisconsin. I hope this info will help someone. I am interested in a NATHAN STRONG who was a building contractor with the firm of MOTT, STRONG and MOTT. I am a descendent of these Motts. These three built the Courthouse in Grand Isle County, VT in 1824. It was an outstanding building still in existence today. And my husband is a STRONG descendent thru: STRONGE, John (d 1613) ENG (02.) STRONG, "Elder" John (Abt 1605-1699) ENG > MA > CT > MA (03.) STRONG, Thomas (1636-1689) MA (04.)
