    3. A few weeks ago, somebody posted a message that included information that the 10 million records (supposedly) destroyed in a fire in St. Louis many years ago had been recovered or reconstructed from duplicates now "found." I made a hard copy of the address to which one should send a request for a personal army record and I kept it where I saw it every day. (My old messages were lost when I upgraded two computers.) However, NOW that I want to use the address, I cannot locate it anywhere. This is the type of problem I seem to find myself facing more and more often now. I only have to wonder how well I will remember anything by the time I am a few years older! Anyway, if whoever posted that address reads this plea, I would greatly appreciate your reposting the address. Sincerely, Floyd E. Roberts of Friendship, Wisconsin

    3. To all STRANG researchers, Just wanted to share will you all the latest development in the quest for my 4x grt grandfather Captain James Strang (Strong) the mariner. It has been determined from the Lloyd's Register that Capt James Strang was born in 1804 in St. John, St. John Co., New Brunswick, Canada. I have been working with some wonderful people on the New Brunswick mailing list and have determined some further details. 1. It would appear that my James Strang was the youngest of 4 children. Dick Strang contacted me and said "My family bible was started in 1830 by Gabriel Strang b.5th July 1797 d. 1868 both at St John NewBrunswick - the second of 4 children. Number four, James Strang, b. 9 Sept 1804..." He has further references to James being a mariner. 2. It appears that James had a wife prior to the mother of my 3x grt grandfather John Fielden Strang. From Daniel F. Johnson's VITAL STATISTICS FROM NEW BRUNSWICK NEWSPAPERS we find: MARRIED Wednesday, Waweig (Charlotte Co.), by Rev. Dr. Thompson, Capt. James Strang, Saint John/Jane, d/o Samuel Connick (New Brunswick Courier 18 Feb 1832) This reference also lists a number of children dying and I suspect that Jane also died and that he remarried ca 1835/36. 3. The 1851 census for St. Andrews Parish, Charlotte Co., NB shows at p. 93: James Strang, 50, b. NB, husband, mariner; Margaret, 40, b. NB, wife; Sarah 14, daughter; John 5, son; Daniel Sullivan, 32, Irish, hired man, laborer. I had previously identified Sarah as a sister of my John and Margaret is listed on John's death registration as the mother's name. 4. From Daniel F. Johnson's VITAL STATISTICS FROM NEW BRUNSWICK NEWSPAPERS we further learn that James Strang: DIED at his residence, Waweig (Charlotte Co.), Capt. James Strang, Master Mariner, shipmaster out of (St. John) Port and continued in one employment over 30 years (Daily Times 29 Nov 1870) Also: DIED Waweig (Charlotte Co.), 29th ult., Capt. James Strang, for many years one of the leading shipmasters out of the Port of St. John (Standard, 7 Dec 1870) So, I am one step closer in my quest. I've learned more about the ships that James commanded and will be updating my Captain's website accordingly. Time constraints mean that the updates probably won't happen until early November so I will post a message to inform you all when it is complete. Until then, Tracy Vickers Maple Ridge, BC, Canada email: [email protected] Captain's Web Page: http://tor-pw1.netcom.ca/~vickerst/ships.html Behold the turtle. 2. Lindsey DiCosola
    3. Wilma and all; Been watching the postings today re New York Strongs and, at the last one, I grabbed my atlas to locate Washington County and had a thought..... Whenever you KNOW the location of a town or county, it may be helpful to the rest of the list to see that in your message. Such as md 2 July 1812 Granville, Washington NY WHICH IS THE AREA NEAR LAKE GEORGE, GLENNS FALLS, HUDSON FALLS, FORT EDWARD AND KINGSBURY. I realize you won't always know that kind of thing but naming other nearby towns might get the attention of someone who never heard of Granville but had a great grandmother in Glenns Falls! I know that for myself, I can usually spot names of towns in Jefferson and Oswego counties AND I WATCH FOR THAT but, I don't know much about other counties so would not necessarily pay close attention to a message naming a town I am unfamiliar with. For this particular Lydia M. STRONG, I notice on the map that Granville is also very close to the VT border.....Rutland VT. People with branches in Rutland are a good place to look for Lydia. 3. Yep, I have been looking at the Bella Strong line also, and there are a lot of William Augustus in the line (born after my W. A. was dead). 3. Thanks for all the responses. I have also tried to follow the Strongs that went to Durham, NY with little success. So far, I can't seem to find a match. The Cranes, my William Augustus Strong's in-laws went to another area of NY. I am leaving in a few minutes for a 5 day golf outing in SC. I will try to absorb all the data that I have received and look at your new postings as soon as I get back. So.....Thanks for the responses. I will reply and re-look at the situation next week. Our line of strongs is published in the Volume IV of the Strong family update. 3. Ralph, You have read the letter written in 1792 to Capt. Scranton Thomas Strong Jr? The Thomas Jr could be the brother of Nathan born July 23, 1748 Durham, CT. On SFAA Web Site Martha has the Thomas family listed. You should look at it. Thomas (s/o Lt. Eliakim and Mehitabel King Strong) and Phebe Seward Strong had two sons survived childhood Thomas Jr and Nathan. I can better understand the letter knowing Nathan and Thomas Jr. were brothers. My records don't show Nathan and Eunice Chalker Strong with a son Nathan. Their son Henry C. Storng had a son Nathan. Jim

    3. I have been attempting to fit the references from Nathan Strong to my records, and most agree, but I have fewer of the later generations. However, as to the location of the marriage of Thomas Strong and Phoebe Steward, my records show it was in Durham (ref: CT Vital data from the FHC vol TR361). I hope this helps. I have been trying to fit my ancestor, William Augustus Strong into these Durham Strongs. According to his war record, he was born in Durham in 1783. Don't seem to fit the Thomas/Phoebe family unless one of the girls had an illegitimate child. He married a Durham girl, Abigail Crane. Several of Abigail's family migrated to New York State. A Nathan Strong pledged as a Freeman in 1803 according to Fowler's "History of Durham". Do you suppose Nathan s/o Nathan and Eunice was back in Durham for this period? I am looking for any Durham data on Strongs, Cranes and Camps. Regards, Ralph
