    3. Hello, Rebekah, I have done quite a large amount of research in Arkansas area, and have seen the Strong name on some of the documents that I have. I have a couple of suggestions for you. If your g-grandmother, Callie, was born in 1888, and her MOTHER was born in Arkansas, then you can check the 1880 census for the STRONG family name. It is a GREAT census for FINDING people, especially the 1880, because there is an index that will find them all over the state, and not just in ONE county. Also, I would suggest the 1900 census, as it is done in much the same way, and Callie would be about 12 years old. After you locate the county that they were in, then you can zero in on that county and find further records, such as marriage, tax, land, cemetery, histories, etc. and possibly then find out if some of your theories are accurate..and maybe even locate MORE of your family. Let me know how you do..ok? LaRee Nooner Co-Moderator for October ---------- Hello, My name is Rebekah Edwards and I just signed onto this list. I'm fairly new to doing genealogy and have very quickly ended up stuck on my Strong line and I am hoping that some of you out there might have some tips to share with me. I'm trying to find information about my great-grandmother -- Caroline Strong (Edwards, Bell.) I have very little information to work with but here it is: The oldest documented information I have is the 1910 census for Fort Smith, AR on which my g-grandmother is listed as "Callie" living with James Edwards (my g-grandfather, her first husband. Her second husband was James O. Bell.) She listed her mother as born in Arkansas and her father as born in Michigan. She is listed as 22 (which puts her date of birth as 1888.) The oral information I have about her is from my grandmother (who was her daughter-in-law and who knew only a very little about her.) The story is that Callie's parents died when she was a child and she was raised by "Uncle Bill" near Ft. Smith AR. My grandmother thought that before her parents died her family lived in Stonewall, OK. Also, Callie had a brother named Christopher. It is unclear if Strong was Callie's father's name, or if Uncle Bill was her mother's brother and Strong was his family name. Unfortunately, this is all I know about my great grandmother. If by any wonderful chance any of these names ring a bell with anybody out there or if you have any suggestions of ways I might proceed I would love to know about it. I personal know Josephine Marie Strong daughter of Orville Nathan Strong and Mary Katie Noble. She was born in 1912 died in 1966. Josephine of NY mailed my aunt Josephine Marie a gift on her fist birthday in Montana. I still would like to know who Josephine Strong b. 1861 d. 10/10/1935 is and who her parents are. Jim

    3. HI All.... Just as a follow-on to what Lindsey had to say in the following message... Recently someone sent out a message about some Strongs from "Durham". As I followed the messages it finally became clear that they concerned Durham, Conneticutt. However, initially I was confused. Please try to remember that there are MANY locations called Durham... there is a Durham, North Carolina; a Durham County and Region in Ontario, and not least, the original Durham in England... and there are probably others as well. I know of Strongs in at least the Ontario and English Durhams....and there may be some in North Carolina for all I know. The POINT is that it would help if you could be Specific in identifying WHICH Durham, or any other place name to which you are referring! Thanks David B.
