    1. Christmas: 1998!

    3. Merry Christmas Everyone! Last year I broke the rules and sent the following message, which I thought might just have the legs to make it again, since some of you may not have seen it then... and then some of you might enjoy seeing it again, too! {:-) David B. "Dave" Strong Email: [email protected] Website, "Researching Strong(e)s and Strang(e)s in Britain & Ireland" http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7530 Topic: FW: A Politically Correct Christmas Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck... How to live in a world that's politically correct? His workers no longer would answer to "Elves", Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves. And labor conditions at the north pole Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul. Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety, Released to the wilds by the Humane Society. And equal employment had made it quite clear That Santa had better not use just reindeer. So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid, Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid! The runners had been removed from his sleigh; The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A. And people had started to call for the cops When they heard sled noises on their roof-tops. Second-hand smoke from his pipe had his workers quite frightened. His fur trimmed red suit was called "Unenlightened." And to show you the strangeness of life's ebbs and flows, Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose And had gone on Geraldo, in front of the nation, Demanding millions in over-due compensation. So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife, Who suddenly said she'd enough of this life, Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz, Demanding from now on her title was Ms. And as for the gifts, why, he'd ne'er had a notion That making a choice could cause so much commotion. Nothing of leather, nothing of fur, Which meant nothing for him. And nothing for her. Nothing that might be construed to pollute. Nothing to aim. Nothing to shoot. Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise. Nothing for just girls. Or just for the boys. Nothing that claimed to be gender specific. Nothing that's warlike or non-pacific. No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth. Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth. And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden, Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden. For they raised the hackles of those psychological Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological. No baseball, no football...someone could get hurt; Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt. Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passe; And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away. So Santa just stood there, disheveled, perplexed; He just could not figure out what to do next. He tried to be merry, tried to be gay, But you've got to be careful with that word today. His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground; Nothing fully acceptable was to be found. Something special was needed, a gift that he might Give to all without angering the left or the right. A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision, Each group of people, every religion; Every ethnicity, every hue, Everyone, everywhere...even you. So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth... "May you and your loved ones enjoy peace on earth." ****************************************************************** I've also arranged for you to pick up a personal greeting by connecting to the following WWW Address*: http://www3.bluemountain.com/cards/box3839x/vat4evuitdjizk.htm ____________________________________________________________ * P.S.: Accessing your card indicates your agreement with our Website Rules posted at the bottom of the following Web location: (Per Blue Mountain, you're welcome to send a free card to someone at this location): http://www3.bluemountain.com

    1. Strong Genealogy Network Image Map
    2. DBS &/or MD
    3. Hello All! As some of you are aware, for more than a year Martha, Russell, BoB and I have been wrestling with a project which involved development of an image map which could be used to "route" visitors to the various websites on the Strong Genealogy Network. Martha initially created several designs which were circulated to this group, discussed and revised. Then Russell and I spent several hours trying to write the HTML codes required to make the respective images selected into image maps. As a rank amateur, I took a couple of attempts at the large image map without success. Finally, last month, I turned to my son, Matt Strong, who is in charge of Information Services, Children's Hospital in Seattle. Matt was able to help me with the HTML coding involved, and thanks to him, we now have a working image map! Utilizing a previous HTML page originated by BoB, a new webpage was developed to implement the image map. The image map has been placed on a new site maintained by me at my local server, Northumberland Online Services. The reasons for this are 1) to avoid the advertising popups on my regular Geocities site, and 2) ease of access for revisions when necessary. The URL of the site is: http://www.nhb.com/dbstrong/sgnhome.htm When you visit this site, you will find the image map will take you to any of the various websites which currently make up the Strong Genealogy Network. You will also find a discussion of the various Websites. Please note the smaller Red, White, and Blue SGN "flag" button. If you place the following HTML codes, and add the sgnlogo7.gif, on any of your personal web pages, it will then become a button link to the sgnhome.htm page, thus providing viewers with easy access to the image map and "switching center": <LEFT><map Name="sgnlogo7"> <area shape="poly" coords="4,2 66,2 66,41 2,41"href="http://www.nhb.com/dbstrong/sgnhome.htm"> </map> <div align="left"> <a href="http://www.nhb.com/dbstrong/sgnhome.htm">Strong Genealogy Network Sites <img src="sgnlogo7.gif"width=90 height=50 border=0 align="left" usemap="#sgnlogo7" ismap></a> </div></LEFT><hr> Note one: You can vary the location of the sgnlogo7.gif on your page simply by changing the values "LEFT" to "RIGHT", or "CENTER"; and you may also wish to delete the "line" symbol, which is <hr>, to suit your personal tastes. You can also vary the size of the gif image by changing the height and width values in the above codes. The sizing is in "pixels", not inches.... so guestimate according to your own desires in this regard. Note two: you will need to capture a copy of the sgnlogo7.gif image and install it on your website as well. (Right click your mouse pointer on the image, and choose "Save the Picture" as "sgnlogo7.gif"). Contact me for assistance if needed. I hope you will all be pleased with this achievement and will encourage use of the image map by creating the necessary links. I intend to have a counter installed by nhb shortly... Any additional suggestions are welcome, of course! Regards, and Merry Christmas! David B. 2. Hi all, This was sent to me by the sister of Judi Osborn. I know we are supose to just have Strong Genealogy on the mailing list but this little girl could belong to any if us so I hope you will forgive this breach. Martha << Here is a copy of a note i've posted at the Times. the info comes from my 12-year-old, James Perry, who saw a clip about Courtney on the local news. "Courtney Adams is a 10-year-old girl who lives in Chipley. Courtney is in the news in the Panhandle because her mother died in a car accident, and when she was asked what she wanted for Christmas, she said, "Christmas cards." Now there's a campaign by some in and around Chipley to see to it that Courtney's mailbox is full of greeting cards every day from now until Dec. 25. So, if you've got a card left over, and you'd like to send a message of cheer to a 10-year-old who could really use it, here's Courtney's address: Miss Courtney Adams 3319 Lucas Lake Road #a Chipley, FL 32428-3529" >>

I would appreciate any information about these Strongs, so that I might rule them in or out in terms of a connection to my Hiram. They are: Allen B. Flu is a mess! Leaves everyone sort of limp. I have a little bit of new maybe exciting information. I have taken a quite look at some of the web indexes for Samuel Strong and William Glenn since they are new to me. From ancestry.com: Scotch-Irish in VA, Vol 2 January 7, 1786 Greenbrier Co VA marriage George Hutchenson and Mary Campbell, d of James Campbell, surety W Urquhart, witness Samuel STRONG This is the first reference I have found that a Strong lived in Greenbrier at the same time as a Joseph Casteel and a William Casteel. Do you know of any more? Could this be the same Samuel that married Jenny Casteel, d of Joseph and Margaret of Russell Co? This Samuel Strong would have to be born prior to 1765 to be of age to witness this marriage. My library has a good selection of books on Greenbrier so I will get myself there and check for other records on Strong family. Of course, I am hoping to make a connection from Greenbrier Co to Russell Co. Jean Brown's book says yes.....but she doesn't say why she believes it! I haven't found anything with promise yet on William Glenn who had a wife Rosanna. Hope you continue to feel better..... Leoneita --part0_913667358_boundary--

Sorry to bother you but, I tried the address that was listed on GENFORUM for the David Strong family, http://newsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and it didn't go through. Do you know if Catherine Selenda Strong, b. 22 Jun 1812, TN, was the daughter of David and Lucretia Strong. (Catherine) Selenda Strong m. Jarret (some say James) Long, 29 Jun 1832, Giles Co., TN. I'd appreciate any info on this family. Thanks, Steve Chennault =========================================================== Greetings, Steve: No will has been found for either David Strong or his wife, Lucretia Irvine Strong. It would seem there should be at least an estate settlement about 1860. You may want to do a search for that. Census records indicated several children, including two daughters born 1795-1800, and a daughter born 1801-1810, who have not been identified. There are two clues that would support the conclusion that Jarrett Long was a son-in-law of David and Lucretia Strong On the 1840 census, Jarret Long is found on Page 146, Line 1. David Strong is enumerated on Page 146, Line 16. Also on Page 146 is Matthew Strong, Line 17, obviously a son of David Strong. Matthew Strong is later found in Maury Co., TN. On the 1850 census, Augustine Long, age 19 (born about 1831) was residing in the David and Lucretia Strong household, with his occupation listed as farm laborer. I have reviewed my abstracts of deeds and other records and find no other indication that there was a connection between David and Lucretia Strong and the Jarrett Long family of Giles County, TN. An intensive search for Jarrett Long and family might be more productive. Please share any additional information you may have about Catherine Selenda Strong Long. The URL above is correct. Try it again and I think you will find more information about the David Strong family in the Strong Mail List messages archived there. I have also experience momentary problems logging onto this web site. Cordially, "BoB T." Strong Robert T. Strong, Jr. 119 Mystic Way Madison, Al 35757-8801

    3. ======================================================== OGLETHORPE COUNTY, GEORGIA, USGenWeb Site Query DATE: Sun Aug 16 13:25:49 1998 NAME: Shirley Ashley EMAIL: [email protected] NOTE: Rt. 1, Box 332 Raymondville, Texas 78580 SURNAMES: THOMPSON / STRONG / MARABLE QUERY TEXT: Looking for the parents of Thomas Patterson THOMPSON b. July 8, 1808 in Clarke County, Georgia and married Simmie Ann STRONG on July 29, 1845 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Charles STRONG and Elizabeth MARABLE. Is there anyone willing to do a look-up for me at the courthouse? Maybe, just maybe, it will have the parents listed. I would like a copy of it also; if found. Am willing to pay for it. ======================================================== Your query on the Oglethorpe Co. , GA, USGenWeb site was noticed. I am not very familiar with the Thompson family but am aware of the connection of the Strongs and Thompsons from my research in Goochland County, VA. John Strong, III, was from Hanover County, Louisa County, Goochland County, and Campbell County, VA, and Oglethorpe and Clarke Counties, GA. He was the father of Charles Strong, Sarah Strong, Robert Strong, Catherine Strong, and David Strong. Charles Strong married Sarah Key Thompson in Goochland Co., VA, on 29 NOV 1785. Sarah Strong married John Thompson in Goochland Co., VA, on 21 MAR 1785. John Thompson and Sarah Thompson were children of Richard Thompson and his wife, Elizabeth, of Goochland Co., VA. After the death of Richard Thompson, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson remarried to Charles Johnson. I believe he is the same Charles Johnson who about 1816 married in Goochland County, VA, to Mrs. Nancy Strong Carroll Turner, daughter of Mrs. Ann Strong, my ancestor. Mrs. Ann Strong was the apparent widow of Martin Strong, brother of John Strong, III. I suspect the Thompsons of Oglethorpe Co., GA, are descended from or related to the Thompsons of Goochland Co., VA. You might want to trace the John Thompson family. John Thompson died testate in Clarke Co., GA, in 1810. He named the following children: Richard Thompson, Frankey Strong Price, Betsey Strong Middlebrooks, William Strong (under age 21 in 1810), Sally Strong, Polly Strong, Martin Strong. Mrs. Sarah Strong, widow, was residing in Clarke Co., GA, in 1827, when she was granted land in Coweta County. Susanna Strong, daughter of Robert Strong and Elizabeth Marable, was born in Heard Co., GA, on 14 OCT 1829, per a submission to the International Genealogical Index. So I believe your data about Charles Strong having a wife named Elizabeth Marable is incorrect. Elizabeth Marable was more likely the wife of Robert Strong, brother of Charles Strong. Robert Strong died on 25 MAY 1841, probably in Heard Co., GA. I recommend you correspond with Mr. Billy "Gene" Strong, whose address about 1983 was Route 2, Box 861, New Iberia, LA. He is a descendant - researcher of the Robert Strong family. For the early history of this Strong family see my own web site: http://ro.com/~rts2/ancestry I would be interested in learning more about Simmie Strong Thompson, as I am not familiar with this name. Best wishes in your quest to discover your Thompson and Strong roots. Bob Strong Robert T. Strong, Jr. 119 Mystic Way Madison, Al 35757-8801
