    2. Dear Ruth, I wish that I could say yes, but I do not think my relatives are related. My great, great grandfather David Strouse (alias Straus, Strauss) immigrated to NYC I believe in 1854. 1860 NYC Census records list his birth in Germany around 1832 and include his wife and two sons. That is the most information I have to date on my European ancestory. 3. Dear Phil Thank you for responding. If you knew what part of Germany your gg grandfather came from , it would help, but, of course you know that. I knew that mine had come from what was Bavaria, now it is included in what they call the Palatinate. An e-mail that would be helpful for that area is R. Paul@INSTITUT/BV-Pfalz.de (That is Institut) hard to see the "I") Have you looked for his application to become a Citizen of the US. That probably will tell you that he rescinded his loyalty to an area. And because of their living in that part of Bavaria, (around Kaiserslaurtern), the family sailed from LeHavre Farnce instead of up around Hamburg. I learned that from Mr. Paul. (of above) Good luck in your search and thanks again Ruth ----- Original Message ----- From: <phil_strauss@juno.com> To: <STRAUSS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 30, 2005 5:34 AM Subject: Re: STRAUSZ-MUELLER-PFEIFFER-SCHROER > Dear Ruth, > I wish that I could say yes, but I do not think my relatives are related. 3. I have been tracking my husband’s family roots and have come to a block in My path. I have been able to trace his departure from Antwerp, Belgium in 1880 to the Port of New York. His great-grandfather’s name was Frederick Strauss (on his marriage license it was Christian Fredrick). He was born January 23, 1858 – it is our understanding he was born in Wittenberg (Wurtenberg), Germany. He married Maria Schweickhard (maiden name either Robren or Rodrian)in Wabash County, Illinois in 1887. He died in 1937 and is buried in Lexington, Nebraska. On the ship’s log he declared his occupation as a farmer. We believe him to be Lutheran as he was married in the Lutheran Church in Browns, Illinois. I was told he brought over a younger brother at a later time, possibly a Gottleib . . . I am not sure exactly where they originated from in Germany, but am searching all locations (all I have is birth location to be Wittenberg – but spelling may be incorrect for city name). I am eagerly seeking to find his roots and trace them back as far as I can for the sake of our entire family. If anyone has any insight and/or knowledge of a Frederick Strauss . . . or possibly the spelling was Friedrich . . . I would appreciate a lead so that I can continue my search. I will follow up on any leads that I may receive. Thank you to all in advance. Yanya in California
