    3. I am trying to find information on the ancestors of Edwin Warfield Straub -1903 -Baltimore MD 1994 Perry Hall, Md. I know his father was Charles Straub and his mother was Sophia Abron. I would like to find out where they were from and the dates of their birth and death. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated since I seem to have hit a brick wall with this group. Kristine Measel Kris God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. 3. Kris, Have you gotten a copy of Edwin's birth and death certificates? These should tell you when and where he was born and when and where his parents were born. Once you know at least roughly where they were, then I would then go for finding their census records, beginning in 1930 and working backwards. Until you get back into the 1800s, you probably aren't going to connect with work already done. I have a STRAUB web site http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/Straub/StraubHome.htm with a good deal of census information, most of it in the early 1800s. I have, though, extracted all the STRAUB heads-of-households in 1900. http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/Straub/Census/PA-1900.htm There are many Charles'es, I'm afraid, which is why it would help greatly to know what county Edwin was born in. 3. It's pretty hard to hit a brick wall in the 20th century. <pun intended> So, not to despair. After checking the LDS, where the IGI has the same information you have, I decided to go for the census records, and I found them. The key one was 1910, which shows Edwin living with his parents, Charles & Sophia STRAUB, in Baltimore. It also shows us that Charles's father is the immigrant, so your STRAUB research in this country will be brief. Hanging over us is the lost 1890 census, but we are in luck because Charles was born in 1867, so we should be able to find him with his parents in the 1870 and 1880 census, and we do. His father is John Joseph (Johann Josef) STRAUB of Prussia (Germany), wife Sarah (b. VA). I've compiled family group sheets for Charles, his parents, and his children, including their census records. You can hook into them from Charles's page: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/Straub/FGS/CharlesJStraub-SophiaMAbron.htm Of course, there's much still to be done (e.g., finding the marriages records), but I hope this helps. If you think I've made any errors, please don't hesitate to point them out.
