    3. Hi Diana Gale, I haven't contacted you in a long time and I kept hoping somehow that I could connect one of the John Straubs of PA with parents Andrew and Barbara to my line. However, all of my info has my John being born in Germany, and those others were born in the USA. Well, I finally got through to the info I needed on Familysearch, so this is an update on my John Straub/Wilhelmina Schroeder family. The LDS has two records of him, but with conflicting birth dates. I now have his christening date, the exact town he lived in and the maiden name of his mother. I am elated, after 10 years looking. 1. John Straub, b. Jan. 1829 Germany d. 30 June 1889 Parents-- Andrew and Barbara Straub 2. Joannes Straub, b. 01 Feb. 1829 Christened-- 02 Feb. 1829 Katholisch-- (which I assume means Catholic) Grossfischlingen, Pfalz, Bayern Parents--Andrae Straub Barbarae Hollerith (I never heard this surname before). Now that I have a little more info, I am hoping someone out there will have a connection to my family. I am looking for John's siblings and their descendants. Did they even come to the USA? Did his parents come over? Did John and Wilhelmina marry in Germany or when they came over? Did they live in another state for a while before settling in St. Bernard (Cincinnati) Hamilton Co. OH? Correction on Wilhelmina Schroeder--was born in Hannover, Germany. Any help greatly appreciated. Janine in Chattanooga

    3. Thank you for the information, Janine. I will get it incorporated into their family group sheets over the weekend. As for surname HOLORITH, it's a spelling variation of HOLLERITH. The name will be familiar to (we) elder computer users because the old time IBM computer punch cards were called Hollerith/Holorith cards in honor of their inventor, Herman HOLLERITH. There's a brief history of them at: http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blhollerith.htm There's a bio of him linked to the above page. Who knows? You may be related, if not in the U.S., then back in Germany. I envy you the joy of breaking down a brick wall. It's been a long time since I've had a breakthrough. It's about time!
