Hi - I, too, am looking for an elusive Straub of Indiana. All I know is that Ernst Straub married my ggrandmother, Maria Hueber, probably about 1884 and probably in Indianapolis. My grandmother, Julia Ann, was born June 1, 1886. When she was 3 years old (i.e. 1889) Ernst took off for the west to find gold and was never heard of again. I see that your original letter was addressed to "Shirley"...do you know if Ernst was listed on her list??? Thanks. This is the first time I have found any mention of a Straub from the list that involves Indiana. My great-grandfather, George Franklin Straub, was born about that time and Benjamin Straub may have been related in some way! This is very exciting and I'm anxious to hear more about the line. There were suppose to have been two brothers with his father, Henry Straub. Henry is thought to have been born before 1860 and died about 1922 in Madison, Indiana. He was my gg-grandfather and the story goes that he was originally from Hannover, Germany. But I recently learned that his grand-daughter lives in Hannover, Indiana and I sure wonder if there is a connect there. Henry and one of the brothers settled around Madison, Indiana. He had a 100 acre farm and worked in Trow's Flower Mill. He bought all the wheat from the farmer's in the town. One of his brothers was suppose to have laid brick streets. One brother went to Michigan, where there are some relatives still living. The only other thing we know about HENRY STRAUB is that he married three different sisters, the last one by the given name of ANN NANCY, maiden name possibly DOWNEY.
