    3. Peggy, I can tell y'all that your messages of personal support have really helped these past two days. Since Monday, I have been alternately shaking my head (in disbelief) and pulling my hair (in frustration) over what is going on. It's a breath of fresh air to receive such a friendly message. I may have burned my bridges over some of the things I've said (no one has ever called me reticent when it comes to speaking my mind). In a nutshell, RootsWeb is not listening to its volunteers, and the changes will be shoved down our throats. And one of the changes is advertising. I thought I was donating my time and effort to a volunteer organization, a great team of thousands of like-minded genealogists who believe our heritage belongs to all and ought to be free to anyone, and online. I didn't realize I was part of a commercial enterprise (albeit, non-profit) that is bent on competing with other commercial enterprises (viz., GenForum and FTM). I didn't think that was our purpose. And I still don't see our mission as competing with them. For what? Business? Well, don't get me started... <sigh> The sad thing is that I've got a big backlog of STRAUB family group sheets to create and post, which could have been accomplished with all the time I've devoted to messaging about the changes, but didn't get done. And now summerschool is starting and I've wasted half my break on this fracus. <gritch, whine> I'm not certain I will be allowed to recant my resignations at this point. We shall see. In any case, my web site won't disappear and neither will the mailing list or boards. The list and boards may simply go unhosted for awhile. I'll keep you posted.
