    2. Hi list, Here is some information sent our way from Jim Burnell. Hopefully it can be of help to some of you! Data taken from History of Pennsylvania Volunteers by Bates. John Stroup, Co. C, 152nd Regiment, 3rd Artillery. Private. Sworn in 11-8-1862; discharged by special order, 10-22-1863. He is also listed as sworn in 8-23-64, discharged by general order 11-9-65. Unassigned man. 152nd Reg., 3rd Artillery. John Stroup, Com. C, 87th Regiment (recruited from York County). Listed as a "substitute." Sworn in 7-11-64, mustered out with company 6-29-65. John A. Stroup: Co. F, 63rd Regiment (recruited in Clarion County); sworn in 8-1-61, discharged by surgeon's certificate 1862. John W. Stroup: Company G., 83rd PA Volunteers (recruited in Tionesta, Forest County). Sworn in 9-2-62; deserted 8-31-63. (Of note here, the 83rd was a very active unit, participating in Antietam and Gettysburg, among others, with action at Little Round Top and Chancellorsville). John Stroup, Captain. Company M, 16th Cavalry, 161st Regiment. Mustered in 10-30-62, promoted to major 11-15-62. Resigned 5-16-63. Jacob Stroup, Company H, 80th Regiment, 7th Cavalry (recruited in Allegheny, Chester and Montour Counties); sworn in 11-30-61, killed at Chickamagua, GA, 9-18-63. Jacob J. Stroup: Company K, 110th Regiment (recruited from Centre and Clearfield Counties); sworn in 3-11-62, mustered out at expiration of term, 3-65. Levi Stroup, Corporal, drated into militia; sworn in 11-2-62, Company F of 171st PA. Mustered out with company 8-8-63. (this company was taken from Bradford, Juniata, Lycoming, Somerset, and Tioga Counties) Daniel Stroup: Sworn in 8-28-61, company G, 83rd Regiment (company recruited in Tionesta, Forest Co.) Must. out 6-28-65. Daniel B. Stroup; drafted into militia 11-4-62, Company F, 171st PA. Deserted 11-12-62. Daniel S. Stroup; sworn in 9-6-64 to Battery M, 152nd Regiment, 3rd Artillery (recruited state-wide). Discharged 6-15-65. Frederick Stroup, 1st Sergeant, sworn in 10-10-1861 to Company *, 53rd PA Volunteers (Company recruited at Perrysville, Juniata County). Promoted to 1st Sgt 4-1-65; Mustered out with Company 6-30-65. (The 53rd saw a lot of action: Hatchers Run, Yorktown, Spottsylvania, and Little Round Top at Gettysburg.)
