The dates given are the date of the publication of "Scientific American" where I found this info. I also ran across some misc. info; Nicholas Stroub in 1870 had a county store in Sheldon center, Wayne Co., NY Barney Straub listed in the Monroe Co., NY 1869-70 directory An unknown Straub from PA designed and built the "Blanton Bridge" in Kansas Naval forces on western waters; list of tugs; W.H. Stroupe ensign of the "Dahlia" stationed above Vickburg Erza Stroup of either the 189th or 194th inf. of Yates Co., NY Miner Stroupe-listed in the 1883 Rochester, NY dir. shows he was a lawyer and physician.
