Sue, I have a family group sheet of your Samuel STRAUB: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/SamuelHStraub-SarahAnnMains-Sophia_.htm I have also been working on the 1860 Census, focusing on Snyder Co.: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/PA/PACensusStraub/1860.htm Your Samuel cannot be the son of Isaac and Sophia because their son, Samuel, is still living with them in the 1860 Census. Your Samuel is the son of David STRAUB & Anna Maria __?__. See http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/DavidStraub-AnnaMaria_.htm and http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/PA/PACensusStraub/1850.htm If you get back to Snyder Co., the place I'd recommend digging is in the County Courthouse. It's dull, tedious work, but I've found some of my most important clues in deeds and tax lists. Of, if you're near and LDS FHC (Family History Center), borrow Snyder Co. microfilms through them. We went to Freeburg and looked around. Walked through cemeteries looking for Straubs. Then went to Selinsgrove to the public library and did some checking but didn't come up with much, I would have spent more time at the library but my mother-in-law (granddaughter of Sopharus Straub) is 88 years old and was tiring. > > I would appreciate any help and any information on this line. > > Sue Steward (ssteward@ccountry.net)
This is interesting, I have recorded a baptism for Bepi Straub, son of David, at Grubb's Lutheran Church, Chapman Twp. June 27, 1827 is either the birthdate or baptism date. I bet this name should be Levi.
I would suspect that the parents had not decided on a name and referred to their son as "Baby" for the baptism.
