We seem to have immediately gotten involved in what has been a difference of opinion as to the ancestry of (Johann) Pieter STRAUB, 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia on the brigantine "Pennsylvania Merchant" (with wife Maria and sons Pieter and Jacob). Two schools exist: 1) that his parents are Hans Kristoph STRAUB and Anna Elisabetha KETTEMANN of Grossgartach, Wuerttemberg; and 2) that his parents are Hans Adam STRAUB and Anna Barbara DETSCHLER. The source for the former is church records from Grossgartch filmed by the LDS and (apparently) transcribed into a book by Annette Kunselman Burgert called, "Grossgartach, Wuerttemberg, to Pennsylvania: Some Early Colonial German Immigrants" (1999, AKB Publications, Myerstown, PA). I do not know the source for the latter. Does anyone? What documentation I have is on this family group sheet: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/JohannPieterStraub-AnnaMariaBarbaraHoffman.htm One would think I would have gotten immersed in the question a long time ago, but as I have not yet proven my connection to (Johann) Pieter, I had decided to sit back and let y'all hash this one out. Given that (Johann) Pieter is the progenitor of a great many American STRAUBs, it's a question of considerable importance to STRAUB genealogists. Diana
