Does anyone have a connection with a Stroup family in Philadelphia (Germantown) around 1890? My line is: Jacob Stroup B. 1838 in PA m. Catharine (b. 1842 in England) married in PA. Daughter Mary Stroup b. 1863 in PA m. F. William Benner. Daughter May Matilda Benner b. Sep 5, 1890 in Germantown m. Henry Percy Pullen in Phila. Joe Pullen
Hello Joe, I've often thought it odd, when so many STRAUBs/STROUPs lived in Philadelphia, why no one on the list seemed to have anything but farmers in their ancestry! I can't help you because I doubt if I have anything you don't already have, namely the 1880 and 1900 census records: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/JacobStroup-Catharine_.htm I have at my web site an every-name index to STRAUB/STROUP in the 1850 census of PA. In theory, any STRAUB/STROUP who was a child in 1850 in PA should be in the index. In other words, your Jacob, age 12, should show up -- and there is one, but not in Philadelphia. I do know the index is incomplete, because the records are incomplete, but even so, it can be helpful. http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/PA/PACensusStraub/1850.htm Just use the Find feature of your browser to find a name on the page.
