Line goes from me to Joyce Stroup to Arthur Stroup (b. 1907, Huntingdon Co. PA) to Jay Jacob Stroup ( b. 1887, Rice Co. KS) to Jacob D. Stroup (b. 1862, Juniata Co. PA or nearby) to Jacob B. Stroup (b. 1829, Juniata Co. PA or nearby) to Moses Stroup/Straub (b. ca. 1794; ?Pfoutz Valley? Juniata/Snyder/Perry Co.) to ? The several of us working on this line can't get back any further right now. I remember Garry's theory that Moses was a son of Peter Straub. We do know that the ancestral family home was in the Pfoutz Valley, which crosses the Juniata River and the Juniata/Perry County line. We also know that Andrew Straub (of Freeburg, Snyder Co.) owned land in the Pfoutz Valley, which is a short carriage ride from Freeburg. I have been trying to gather information on the Straub/Stroup families of that Juniata/Perry/Snyder area AND the family up the road in Mifflin County. I sent for about 30 Civil War pension applications for Pennsylvania Stroup veterans just before the price went up. I have received only about 3 or 4, was notified that several others could not be located, and the remainder are in some sort of limbo. Here's hoping that those records come trickling in as time goes on and allows us all some additional information. (At the current price of $30 apiece, I don't intend to do much fishing.) So I can possibly assist some of you if time allows. Between the Denver office of the National Archives and the Denver Public Library, I have access to all the census records. As of now, I am in the process of "sweeping" all the records for Mifflin, Juniata, and Snyder/Union/Northumberland, for names of interest, one of which is Stroup/Straub. So I have available many census records from those counties for the family of concern. I look forward to increased activity. Jim
