    3. I guess I should just clear the air on this one, especially for those who may not have been on the STRAUB-L list since its inception. I was the original creator/admin of the STRAUB-L mailing list (and of a full suite of Straub GenConnect Boards -- now the Straub Message Boards at Ancestry.com) back in January of 1999. I had done so (including the "donation" required to do so) believing the "RootsWeb Genealogy Data Cooperative" was a non-profit organization. In May of 1999, RootsWeb announced that it had incorporated as a for-profit corporation, and advertising began to appear on the site. My outspoken (understatement) objections to discovering the true nature of RootsWeb led to my resigning and being banned, which meant, among other things, that I couldn not subcribe to any mailing lists based on RootsWeb servers. That ban was in effect until a few weeks ago when negotiations with the new owners of RootsWeb (MyFamily.com, Inc., which also owns Ancestry.com) got me reinstated as a member of STRAUB-L -- and, as of today, reinstated as list administrator. I'm glad to see some of the old faces are still members! We had a vibrant, active group going there for awhile -- making progress and, really, having a lot of fun. With the vastly increased resources online, I know my research is moving ahead more quickly, and I hope yours is, too, and that an active STRAUB-L list will again become a valuable tool. In conjunction with creating the STRAUB-L mailing list and supporting the GenConnect board, I had also started a linked, related STRAUB web site on the RootsWeb servers, making a central location for STRAUB resources. After the ban, I moved the STRAUB web site to a commercial web host -- the fastest host I could find -- which also has the advantage that there is no advertising on the pages. While the STRAUB web site has grown some during the past two years, I had more-or-less put STRAUB research on a back-burner, which is how the rest of my site grew so large -- really, at the expense of STRAUB. http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/index.htm But my late mother was a STRAUB, so this surname is near and dear to me. I have a backlog of STRAUB material to post and family group sheets to update. It is my intention to return to making STRAUB research my priority. I work on all STRAUBs, not just my own line, and I hope I can make the web site truly useful for all STRAUBs. http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/StraubHome.htm It's good to be back. It's good to "see" y'all again. And although we've already got a couple of threads going, perhaps this might be a good time to do a Roll Call -- I've no doubt one hasn't been done in awhile! A Roll Call means giving your STRAUB line and outlining your most pressing STRAUB genealogy question. By the way, let's not forget to NOT post information on living people. Also, no home addresses or telephone numbers, posted to the list. Please exchange such information privately -- for your own security. I'll start the Roll Call with a new message... so you can just delete this one. :-) Diana

    3. Welcome back! I was rather startled to see a sudden influx of STRAUB material. Glad to know things are back on track for you and for the list. I've been sidelined, myself. My dear guide dog, Delsie, had to be put to sleep last month on, of all days, the eleventh of September. She died at the same hour the planes slammed into the World Trade Center towers and I do believe that she was there to guide the newly departed souls to the rainbow bridge. Stil, it has been difficult for me to know that my sweet guide is no longer around. My online presence has been a bit diminished I am related to the STRAUB lines through Susannah Hogendoubler or Hougendoubler (or any of the many variants) whose mother was a STRAUB (although I'd have to consult my notes to find it now). I have it all somewhere, but I'm down with a nasty cold just now and will wait until I'm feeling a bit better to post my data.
