    3. Michael, I'm posting this both to the list and as a reply to your message at the STRAUB Message Board at Ancestry.com. As you found, I have uploaded the 1850 and 1860 census records of Jacob & Hannah (GORDON) STRAUB, as well as the 1880 record of widower George STRAUB in Nebraska to their family group sheets at my web site. If you weren't already aware, I have a web site dedicated to STRAUB at: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/StraubHome.htm Given the birthplaces of the children, your George was still in PA for the 1870 census. I have also found George in an index to the 1870 census, but I have no access to the 1870 film or page images. 1870 is the only census year yet to be completed at Ancestry.com. Fortunately, it is probably only a matter of days before Ancestry.com completes uploading the 1870 images. If I were you, I would write off that George's wife could have been born in Wyoming, not in the 1830s. People just weren't living there then. Explorers, yes; settlers, no. The first census of WY wasn't until 1870. She had her children in PA and died in PA, so I would bet any money that she was born in PA and married in PA -- thus meaning the death certificate was wrong, which is not at all unusual. I hope I haven't stolen your fun for when your 1880 Census CDs arrive, but I am too excited to wait because... Your GORDONs and STRAUBs were intermarrying with HAAS/HASS in Northumberland>Union>Snyder Co., PA. My GG-grandfather's brother, Benjamin STRAUB (b. 1802, PA) married Elizabeth HASS (b. 1802, PA) in PA ca. 1820/21, then moved to Ohio by 1824. I had been unable, up til now, to put HASS and STRAUB together in the same county at the right time -- but here they are!!!! There is a high probability that your Jacob STRAUB (b. 1807/8, PA) is a brother of our Benjamin (b. 1802), Andrew (b. 1797), Joseph (b. 1800-1810), Samuel (b. bef. 1806), and Susanna (b. 1808/9) -- all born in PA -- and there is the further possibility that these are all children of Andrew STRAUB, Founder of Freeburg, Snyder Co., PA. Nothing proven, yet, of course. Please see these family group sheets at my web site: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/AndrewStraub-Barbara_-of-Freeburg.htm http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/JacobStraub-HannahGordon.htm http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/WillisGordon-ElizabethSnyder.htm http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/GeorgeStraub-ABeightol.htm The URL to George's page will probably change when we determine for certain his wife's exact, full name. Thank you for the lead, Michael. Finding out Hannah's maiden name opened a whole new door. Let's keep hunting and keep sharing! Diana P.S. Benjamin STRAUB & Elizabeth HASS/HAAS are Nancy Holben's family. I'm certain she'll be just as thrilled.
