But he died in 1806 and his wife was not Barbara, so he is obviously not the Andrew whose deeds you were reviewing. > Two > years ago, I had done some extensive research on Andrew, founder of > Freeburg, Snyder, PA. The person you have been studying is Andrew STRAUB III (1788- ), son of Andrew STRAUB II (1748-1806), founder of Milton. http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/FGS/Straub/AndrewStraubIII-Barbara_.htm Andrew III came of age and into his inheritance in 1809, which explains why those transactions started in 1809. Andrew III was in Milton the 1810 and 1820 censuses. > Andrew had sold many in the years before 1809. In Centre County alone, > there were over 60 parcels sold. Neither the man making the real estate transactions, nor the man whose will has been referred to, is the founder of Freeburg. Secondary sources say the founder of Freeburg died a pauper in 1826, so he almost certainly did not leave a will. Nor was he around to be dealing in real estate in 1847. > I have not done much research in the last year because of health problems. > But my health is much better now. Shiley Straub Morton I'm sorry to hear you have been ill, but much relieved to hear you are better. You are such a storehouse of STRAUB knowledge, your participation on the list has always been greatly valued. And in this instance, I would be greatly appreciative if you could abstract those deeds. Or send the photocopies to me, so I can abstract them. I'm particularly curious to know where this Andrew was "of" when he sold parcels. I loose track of him after the 1810 census, but your research clearly shows he was alive until at least 1847 -- and if only he had lived to be enumerated in the 1850 Census! Surely, a man as prosperous as this one -- Andrew III, s/o the found of Milton -- left a will. I would LOVE to know who his children were! Shirley, do your deeds give any clue where Andrew III was living in 1847? Diana

    3. Diana, I don't see how the deeds that I have are from anyone other than Andrew who bought land from his father, Peter STROUP on 15 Jun 1792, sold to Peter Fries on 29 April 1796,sold land to John STRAUB on15 Nov 1816, sold two lots from the Heilbourn to John Raush for building the town of Freeburg, sold land to John Raush for eight pounds on 30 April 1803 and hundreds of other transactions over more than 50 years. His signature is the same on all of them. On many deeds, after 1803, Barbara 's mark was also on the deeds. I may have missed some before 1803. I would be pleased to share any of this information with the Straub researchers. I have the copies of the deeds from the various county courthouses. How would you like me to share this information? Oh, yes, in answer to your question, the latest deed that I found was sold in Centre County. It did say Andrew of Penn Township. In Dunkelberger's book , he said that Andrew died in Penn Township. 3. I think it's very important that we get to the bottom of this, Shirley. Obviously, the "tradition" that Andrew, founder of Freeburg, died a pauper in 1826 is looking a bit fishy at this point. I'll be happy to plow through these deeds and abstract them. Thankfully, I'm a fast touch typist, so it's not an ordeal for me. I've sent you my USPS address in a private message. I do appreciate that we are benefiting from your years of hard work collecting these photocopies. I know I can speak for all of us when I say we are grateful that you are willing to share them. I'll do my best to make them available for everyone via the web site -- with due credit to you, of course. This business of the Andrews in this cluster of counties in the last 1700s and early 1800s has been driving me nuts. But I live in Florida, and have little prospect for making a trip to PA any time soon, if ever.
