Matthew, I've done all the George STRAUBs (and variations) in PA in 1860 (this page is under construction and very rough): http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/PA/PACensusStraub/1860.htm The problem now becomes not that there is no likely candidate for your George, but that there's more than one. If only the 1880 census record showed children born before 1860! But it doesn't -- either there were none or they were married and gone by 1880. Point is, I don't see this being resolved until we also get George's 1870 record, where the children will give us the link between 1860 and 1880. Based on the birthplaces of the children (as given in the 1880 census), George was still in PA in 1870. I'll try to look up the other George's you list (the ones not in PA) -- and the ones in PA in 1870 ASAP, but I'm in a bit of a bind... My hard drive crashed (as in totally died) a week ago, and I've only just gotten the new drive installed. (It is soooo hard to shop without being able to go on the Internet!) It's going to take several days to get my system completely rebuilt, and I've only just installed my email software as the first priority. And ominously, this new drive is behaving strangely, so the problem may be more deep-rooted (as in bad mobo). If I don't reply to emails for awhile, please don't anyone take it personally.
