Well then may explain why some of my Great uncles have been using their middle most of their life in the Friend family line. James Floyd went by Floyd, John Franklin went by Frank. Man what a pain with these name changes. Matthew D. Friend Diana Gale Matthiesen <DianaGM@dgmweb.net> wrote: P.S. to Matthew... I've become convinced that your George STRAUB was John George STRAUB, Jr., son of John George STRAUB, Sr. Both went by John in the 1850 census and George in the 1860 census. That was why "George" was so difficult to find in 1850: he was going by John. If you're familiar with German naming practices, you'll understand the reason for the shift from the first name to the middle name. If not, there's a good explanation at: http://www.kerchner.com/germname.htm The bottom line, and the reason I mention this, is that the name change means another change in the URl for George's family group sheet to: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/6/Straub/FGS/JohnGeorgeStraub-AnnaBeightol.htm Sometimes, the way I name family group sheets gets to be a pain because, when a name changes, the URL changes. But they usually settle down after a bit, and the convenience of having them named this way outweighs the inconvenience, at least for me. Sorry.
