Hi Garry, I am happy this was your ADAM STRAUB :-) What started this was a flurry of conversations on other lists about these BLM land grants. Some say you had to have military background to receive it, others say their passive Quaker ancestors received such land. Another said there was a particular area in Ohio (and other locations) where land was basically requested by New Englanders, by "mail", sight unseen, who immediately resold to land grabbers. And also, as I previously mentioned, you could request the land in the name of an ancestor and complete paperwork to prove your relationship and your right to receive their land grant. I would be interested to know if you decide to request the paperwork, what you do finally receive, to see if it is worthwhile. ...Or perhaps someone on this list may already know what you get.
