Hello, I am a new member (as of yesterday) and I want to put in what little I know about my ancestors. My father's name was Ivan LeRoy and he had brother named Walter, sisters named Minnie, Lettie,Laura and Alida. My Grandfather's name was Frederick Whistler Stroup and I know (by his obituary) that he was born in Union County, PA in April of 1844. He married Henrietta Ford. He enlisted in the 44th Regiment of the Indiana Infantry in 1861 and served until 1865. This is as far as I can get into the past and sure would appreciate any information that would lead to his parents and/or siblings. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hello, I would appreicate knowing the URL of the website as well. I joined this list as she was leaving and wasn't sure what the circumstances were.. I noticed there hasn't been any activity since that time. Thank-you. My family name is Stroube which we have traced back to what is now East Germany, but the spelling has remained unchanged since the 1700's or before. I'll check my material to see if there are similar names that might suggest an error in spelling. (People are always trying to add that "L" to my name when they pronounce it.) Thaks for the info. Hi list members! I came across a biography for a Henry STROUP b. 1815 who was brought up in Seneca Co, NY, son of Michael and Sarah (Graves) STROUP (of English descent?). His great-grandmother was Amanda Whitmore, who lived to the age of 126. It is located at the Kent County, Michigan webpage. The URL for his bio is: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/KentBios?read=327 I hope this can help someone! Susan M. Gates Davis http://www.angelfire.com/mi/GatesDavisGene
The following message was sent by a former member of the list: "There does appear to be some confusion about when Margaret was married and when she died. That is, I have her married in 1870, with a son born in 1872. So the census to check would be 1870 -- either as daughter of a STROUP or wife of Jasper EOFF, and then the 1880 census for her sons. In the 1880 census, you list the birthplaces of your parents, so her sons should give Margaret's birth state, even though Margaret is dead. One caveat -- unless the census taker used the step-mother's birthplace. But the step-mother's birthplace is given, so if it's different from the boy's mother's, you'll know you've got the right state for Margaret's birth. Rather than having Bonnie have to keep relaying messages on this topic, I have placed a few strategies for finding Margaret STROUP on the following web page: http://grove.ufl.edu/~dianagal/Straub/FGS/JasperEoff-MargaretStroup.htm If I think of anything more, I will add it to the page. Every bit of data Jerri and Shirley can add will help open doors to finding more. " ...forwarded by Bonnie Strope
Thanks to the "former list member."
Hi - I, too, am looking for an elusive Straub of Indiana. All I know is that Ernst Straub married my ggrandmother, Maria Hueber, probably about 1884 and probably in Indianapolis. My grandmother, Julia Ann, was born June 1, 1886. When she was 3 years old (i.e. 1889) Ernst took off for the west to find gold and was never heard of again. I see that your original letter was addressed to "Shirley"...do you know if Ernst was listed on her list??? Thanks. This is the first time I have found any mention of a Straub from the list that involves Indiana. My great-grandfather, George Franklin Straub, was born about that time and Benjamin Straub may have been related in some way! This is very exciting and I'm anxious to hear more about the line. There were suppose to have been two brothers with his father, Henry Straub. Henry is thought to have been born before 1860 and died about 1922 in Madison, Indiana. He was my gg-grandfather and the story goes that he was originally from Hannover, Germany. But I recently learned that his grand-daughter lives in Hannover, Indiana and I sure wonder if there is a connect there. Henry and one of the brothers settled around Madison, Indiana. He had a 100 acre farm and worked in Trow's Flower Mill. He bought all the wheat from the farmer's in the town. One of his brothers was suppose to have laid brick streets. One brother went to Michigan, where there are some relatives still living. This message is forwarded to all; as requested by a former member. In regard to Shirley's message, there was a Jerri Eoff Sudderth who queried about this very family on the list some months ago. I can no longer tell if Jerry is a subscriber. Would you please tell Shirley to check the "Everyname Index" on the STRAUB home page? I have incorporated Jerri's information and her information into a "family group sheet" for Jasper EOFF and Margaret STROUP. It isn't much information. If she can be encouraged to give any additional information, I can add it to the sheet. The more that is there, the more likely to make a connection. The URL for this page is: http://grove.ufl.edu/~dianagal/Straub/FGS/JasperEoff-MargaretStroup.htm Hopefully, Jerri is still a subscriber and will respond. ___ forwarded to the list by Bonnie Strope

Shirley and I are looking for the same woman, Margaret or Mary Stroup. Unfortunately, neither of us have any more to add. I've checked the 1860 census, just before she married Jasper (listed as Joseph) Eoff (listed as AOF in marriage records from Jefferson Co., MO, and have found nothing. The lady apparently died mid- 1860s...We are at a loss. HELP! Jerri Eoff Sudderth
I am new to this list but hope someone out there can help me out. My great grandmother was Margaret Stroup. She and Jasper Eoff married in 1870 in Jefferson County, Missouri. They had 2 sons, Henry and William Jasper. William Jasper was my grandfather. Margaret died when he was about 1 1/2 years old. In the marriage register she is listed as Mary and he as Josep. I have been unable to find out who her parents were. I will appreciate any assistance I can get to find out where she came from. Thank you, Shirley Azvedo s.azvedo@worldnet.att.net
