    3. All listers: Hopefully someone out there will be able to point me in the right direction. While researching some of my wife's family, the Straub side, we discovered in the Genealogy section of the Monroe County Library - Ellis Reference Center; a book titled, The Straub Family History. The book was authored by Joan Straub Tighe and Anna Liedel Straub in 1996. How can I get a copy of this book? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Erick J. 2. Mueller, Deborah
    3. Good morning, I am searching for Straub family member from Wheeling. Mary Straub's girls (Sara) Dr. and Mrs. William H. Hayes. Bridgeport, Ohio - In 1973 they lived at R.D. Box 44 (Doretha) Mrs. Chester Bertschey lived at 624 Main St. Wheeling West Virginia. Mary's son Charles died. Mary lived on Cherryhill Road. I have no idea who this Mary Straub was. My great grandfather Jacob Straub married Caroline Schaeffer in Marine, Illinois in 1869. They had 7 children: Otto, Jacob, Margaret, Willimena (Minnie), Charles, George, and Lena. In 1888 Jacob, Caroline and children left Marine for Wheeling to be near the Straub family. Louis Edwin Straub was born on March 23, 1888 in Bellaire, Ohio. Jacob and Caroline and children left Wheeling and moved to St. Louis, Mo. in July 1889. My Aunt Audry Straub O'Hearn remembers visiting the Straub family in Wheeling. She said they were very well off. They had a big house in the front and a smaller house in back. I am trying to find the family from Wheeling. If anyone can help, please let me know. Thank you Deborah Mueller Deborah.Mueller@chron.com

    3. Hi Rachel, I'm from Wisconsin and have lots of information on my branch of the Straub's. The names you mention don't sound familiar, but I do have information on about 150 other Straub families that I haven't found a connection to mine. The only problem is that all that information is in Wisconsin and we will not be back home until the middle of March. We will be here in Texas until then. If you don't hear from me by the end of March remind me. 2. Shirley Morton
    3. To Judy: I have been researching my STRAUB line for 25 years and cannot find enough evidence to show that the Peter STRAUB who is listed as coming to the Colonies in 1733 is truly my ancestor. I do have many records which prove that John STRAUB, born in the 1700's, died 13 Jan 1824 is my Great-Great Grandfather. In the land records I found that Andrew STRAUB, a real estate salesman sold land to John. Whether or not they were brothers, I can not verify. Andrew and his wife Barbara did sell hundreds of property over the years of the late 1700's and early 1800's. Most of the records are in Centre County, PA. The St. Peter's Church, of Freeburg, PA records say that the Andrew to which I have reference died without having children. In my database I have no Edward STRAUB listed. There were some STRAUB's who came from Germany in the 1850's and 1860's. They are listed in some books containing passenger lists. The George, well-documented son of Peter of 1733, did have a grandson, Benjamin who went to Indiana in 1870. That information is in the Snyder County Historical Societies records in Middleburg, PA. Any of the names that I have from the late 1800's were from Snyder, Union, Northumberland and Montour Counties in PA. Sorry that I have no better information for you. Shirley STRAUB MORTON

    3. Judy, My Straub family was in Cincinnati by 1858. They came from Germany and I don't know if they lived in another state before coming to OH. They had Indianapolis relatives that I don't know anything about, but I do have a newspaper clipping about Adjutant General, Elmer Straub, of the Indiana National Guard, calling some troops together. As far as I know, my gggrandfather, John Straub, was the first of our family to come over, although his parents may have come, but I can't get any info on them other than their names, supposedly Andrew and Barbara Straub. I don't know anything about John's siblings. John married Wilhelmina Schroeder and had five children and raised them in St. Bernard (Cincinnati). They are all buried at Spring Grove Cemetery. I wish we could make a connection. I know there has to be some relatives out there somewhere. I can't find out anything about the parents and siblings of Wilhelmina Schroeder Straub either. Any help appreciated. Janine in Chattanooga

    2. Judy Schindler
    3. Shirley, I sure hope we have a connection as I've been at a dead end for some time with the Straubs. My great grandfather was Edward Straub born in Pennsylvania about 1861. By 1880 he was in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is listed on the census as working in a boot factory. His father's name was Vincent or it may have been William. He owned the boot factory. They had another child besides Edward: Julia was born about 1869 in Indianapolis. The mother was "Mary". Both Vincent and Mary were born in Baden Germany about 1833. That is ALL that I have about them. Where they were in Pennsylvania, I have NO idea. Hope some of this looks familiar to you! 2. I am very interested in your Wisconsin STRAUBs. "My"Jacob Straub was born in 1816 in Germany and came to Wisconsin between 1849 and 1854. I don't know where they were in Wisconsin, but believe they went there because of other family members. They were in Marshall County, Kansas by 1860. Jacob married Maria Petri in Germany and they were the parents of three children: Jacob, 1849 in Germany; John, 1955 in Wisconsin; and Mary, about 1860 in Kansas. Do you know any thing about this family? Hopefully, Donna from Wichita

    2. Gwen, I got this message from Jim Burnell. Does this then tie into anything that you have with Isaac and Sophia as Samuel's parents? The 1850 census shows Samuel as 9 years old and the 1860 census shows him as age 21 -- that's a little discrepancy in the age but I am sure that is partially because of the dates the census was taken and also information either written down by the census taker or someone giving wrong information on the age when he was 9 years old. I'd love to hear from you. With warmest regards, Sue Steward --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: jeem@uswest.net To: STRAUB-L@rootsweb.com Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 16:33:45 +0100 Subject: Re: [STRAUB] SOPHARUS (PHARES) STRAUB Message-ID: <3A3E2E57.B7B69D28@uswest.net> References: <20001216.222526.-182441.1.nssteward@juno.com> Sue, In my records I show the following: 1860 Snyder County census. Washington Twp Straub, Samuel (age 21), Sarah (age 22) and Pharus (1 year-old) 1870 Snyder County census they appear to be gone, apparently to Ohio. But be careful, as there is another Samuel Straub in Washington Twp (age 22 in 1870) with wife Sarah (age 19 in 1870) and family Emory (7), Alsina (4) Lewis (2). 1850 Union County, Washington Twp. Isaac (31) Sophia (33) with Eli (10), Samuel (9), George (6), Sussanah (4) andMatilda (1). So it appears that Pharus was son of Samuel and Sarah, grandson of Isaac and Sophia. Hope that helps.
