Thank you, Garry. Yes, I have him in 1820 and in 1850. It's 1830 and 1840 that are driving me nuts. Diana Garry Heagy wrote: > > Diana, > > I found Andrew in the 1820 census in Hemlock Twp, Columbia County. It looks > like the surname is spelled, Straap. His listing is 31001-0201
Diana, I found Andrew in the 1820 census in Hemlock Twp, Columbia County. It looks like the surname is spelled, Straap. His listing is 31001-0201
Does anyone know where Andrew STROUP, husband of Susanna CARL, was in the 1840 census? I've looked and looked in the Broderbund Index CD and cannot find him. He should be in Trumbull [now Mahoning] Co., but danged if I can find him under any conveivable variation of his name. Ditto 1830. He was missed by the indexer in 1820 (Hemlock Twp., Columbia Co., PA). What are the chances that they missed him twice again? Diana
Jacob D. Stroup was born December 1862, probably Greenwood Township, Juniata County, son of Jacob B. Stroup. His wife was Alice M. Carstetter (Kerstetter) of Greenwood Township, daughter of Adam. Born July of 1862, to the best of my knowledge. I don't have the data with me right now, but I found a little narrative on Jacob in one of those genealogical/biographical accounts (so popular in the late 1800s) of the Elkhorn River Valley, Northeast Nebraska. To the best of my recollection, Jacob was a farmer and veterinarian in Hooper, Dodge County. The entire family was back in Juniata County for the 2000 census. His father, Jacob D., died in the "West Chester Asylum" in 1902, so I suspect that the family moved back because Jacob D. was in poor health and help was needed back in the Juniata Valley. The family stayed on in Central Pennsylvania after that. My own grandfather was born not far away in Huntingdon County. Dear Jim, Very interesting...my father, James Ray Stroup, b. 1904), 4 other brothers and a sister all raised in Erie, Kansas. My father left about 1928 and went to Polk Co. Nebraska where he married and lived for a few years. It would be a real coincidence, after all this time if we connected. Where in NE was your family? Look forward to hearing from you. Could you keep your eyes open for my Stroups while perusing Kansas? My great-grandfather was born in Kansas, April 1887. I have guessed it was Rice County. His name was Jay Jacob Stroup, parents Jacob D. and Alice M. His older sister was born in Kansas, also, about a year earlier. The two younger siblings were both born in Nebraska and I have located the family in Nebraska through an incredible stroke of serendipity and good luck, but don't know where they were in Kansas. Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society has a number of Sedgwick County, KS marriage affidavits in their library. (Some of the affidavits from the 1870's and 1880's are missing from the files even though the names appear in the index). MHGS has copies of the marriage returns for 1882 and 1883, then 1885 through April 1913. These contain the same information as the affidavits along with when the marriage was performed and by whom. Here you can access a marriage index covering Books A through Z, 9 May, 1870 to 24 May 1922. Hi all, I just got the 1810 and 1820 Northampton census images. If anyone needs me to look up any one for them let me know and I'll be happy to. Most of the pages very readable unlike some others I have. I also have Jackson County, MI. 1900 and 1910 and I think one other. Nancy

I'm sorry I forgot. My Benjamin Straub b. 1802 somewhere in PA. m. Elizabeth Hoss/Haas they moved to Ohio sometime after 1825. Children; Susanna Straub Plotts---Mary Straub Thompson---Hester Straub Morehart Morehart Morehart(she married 3 Morehart men, a brother and 2 cousins)---Aaron Straub---Adam Straub---Hiram Straub----Sheldon Straub--- Samuel Straub---Thomas Straub---Benjamin Straub Jr. My Benjamin is the Brother to Diana's Andrew even though we have no documented proof yet. But they show up together in Ohio Land purchases and If we can prove it a census showing them as the children of Andrew. Diana and I have been working together to try and find out where in PA they lived and parents. Please read the family letter on my site. I'm up dating it right now and should be good to go in about 1 hour. If anyone would like, please send me your web site URL and I'll link it on my page. Nancy
I don't know which Benjamin you are trying to find. However, Benjamin B. Straub , b. 7 Jul 1848 in Union County, PA took his family to the area of Elkhart, IN about 1868. He was the Great Grandson of Peter Straub who died in 1804 and is buried in Freeburg. There is much documentation on that family line.
