Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZAQBAEB/21.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Pat, Thanks. My biggest problem is that nobody in the family knows anything about him. All I know is that he is listed as the father of John P. Strack born 17 Feb 1909 in RI (per a RI vr cd). I've not been able to find out what happened to John. The relative I'm researching was a sister of John, Alice Strack b 1911, who later married a John Besharian and moved to California. She died in Fullerton, Ca in 1989 according to the ssdi. Supposedly they also had a sister Mary, who married a Galvin. I don't know if she is one of the ones on ssdi. The problem is that Eli A. supposedly left or divorced his wife Emma J. (Patenaude) and they never saw him again. Emma was born 1887 and died 1968. I don't know what Eli's dates were but I suspect he was born before 1887 and died before the 1960's or there is a good chance he would have been on the ssdi. I have the 1900 census and I looked for him in every state between here and PA but didn't find him. I also had the 1910 for a! while (with no index) and I checked almost all of Providence, RI page by page except for the pages that wouldn't open. No luck. One clue might be that the cd I have also has an Albert L. Strack who married in 1908 RI to a Gertrude L. Hall and an Edith K. Strack who married in 1907 RI to Linus M. Cook. I thought it was possible that one or both of them might be siblings of Eli. Unfortunately I can't seem to find anything on Albert or Edith either. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. One family member thinks this family was PA Dutch, but since they know nothing about him I'm keeping all my options open. I'm working on this tree for my brother-in-law.

I don't have Eli in my database, so I'm not sure if he would be related or not. Do you have any further information on Eli that you could give me? Children's names or parents, brothers, sisters, etc.? I can take a shot at finding him for you. How old was he in 1910? Pat

I've been stuck on him forever. If you mean that some of the Clinton, Co NY Stracks moved to nearby Mass then yes, I was aware of that (the Oxford, Mass area I think). I have not been able to find my Eli on any local census records though I know he was in the Providence, RI area in 1910. Patty

Her maiden name was Patenaude and she was born just over the RI line in Massachusetts. She lived her entire life in the Providence,RI area. I have some info on her parents John Napoleon G. and Mary J (King) Patenaude. Her husband Eli is still elusive. I know nothing about him. I have not been able to find him in the local city directories or on the local census so far. From what I know he came to Providence from another part of the country, married Emma (before 1910), had at least two children (John c1909, Alice c1911 and maybe Mary), and then he disappears. I think they divorced. Maybe he went back to where he came from. Some of the family thinks he was from a PA Dutch Strack family. While you look into your Strack family, be sure to let me know if you come across an Eli that may fit it. I wondered if the one in NY had ever come to RI.

    2. Bob Strock
    3. I have received word that Ronald W. Strock, long time Strack/Strock family researcher, passed away on the 4th of March 2002. Ronald after the death of his father, Edwin who was a earlier Strack/Strock researcher, took his fathers papers and compilied and published the "Joseph Strock of 1757 and His Descendants". Ronald also worked on other Strack/Strock lines from his fathers papers and his own research. Ronald W. Strock was born 25 Jul 1927 in South Bend, IN to Edwin and Helen Strock. He died Monday 4 Mar 2002. I found a full obituary at http://www.southbendtribune.com/stories/thisday/vital.Obituaries.sto Bob Strock -- Bob & Esther Strock, Dalton, OH. On the edge of Amish Country. 2. Bob Strock
    3. I have been reading about matching persons to each other by DNA testing. In the Strack/Strock lines there has always been the family lor about brothers and cousins coming to America. At GENTECH, Jan 2002, Ancestry.com was starting a DNA project. Then this past week Ancestry.com announced a special price for a time period, length unknown. FYI the URL is http://www.ancestry.com/genetics/main.htm I went ahead today and ordered the testing kit for the male lines. The cost is something that I wouldn't do often but if we can get a couple of others to also get the kit maybe we could prove one way or another about connecting across the pond. I only found out about Josephine a few months ago and have been going like mad trying to fill in the blanks. Here is what I do have: Josephine Strack m. Felix Woodcome Jan 19, 1885. I don't know anything about Louis, but I have heard about him from someone else. The children I have are Arthur, Alfred, Henry and Mary. Arthur married Lillian McMann and had two children, Arthur and William. Alfred married Marguerite Coyne and had three children, Raymond, Marguerite and Dorothy Felix. Mary married Fred Wentworth and had Roy Wentworth. Henry married Agnes Reddington and had Doris and Harold Arthur. The information on Josephine's children came from Doris. I don't yet have dates on all of this. Josephine married Joseph Perry sometime before 1903, when my grandmother Rose Perry was born. Rose married Joseph Ernest Gonyea and had twins, Patricia and Theresa (my mother) and Janice. I found Josephine through a very kind person who looked up her obituary and death certificate for me in Pittsfield, MA. It named all of the children I have, but did not mention Louis, probably because he predeceased her. I had heard that at least some of the children were living with their Aunt Emma? Paradis. I had not heard that they were in NY with her parents. I had thought that Jacob was in MA by that time. Finding out that he was in NY will help me find him. I have a subscription to Ancestry's images online and will look that up. I found Josephine on the census living with Mary in 1900 in the Whitinsville area. I found Emma (Ellen?) Paradis on the census also, with a child living with them, but the image was so light I couldn't see who it was. Information from Doris indicated that at that time, Felix was still alive and living with the Paradis family, but I did not find him there. I'm not sure why he would be living with Josephine's sister anyway? Thanks for answering and feel free to contact me through email anytime. I did have one question though. I just recently found Josephine myself, and wondered how you discovered she was married to Felix Woodcome and Joseph Perry. I knew about Joseph Perry and that she had been married before, but the name my mother remembered was Whitcome, not Woodcome. Finding her obituary was what told me I had been on the wrong track. Thanks again, Pat
