The RI vital records cd lists him as "Eli A. Strack" on the birth record of his son John, born 1909 Providence. On the 1910 census he is an "automobile repairer" age 28 in Boston with wife Emma J. (Patenaude) and son John (infant, b.RI). By 1920 he is a plumber age 40 in Revere, MA and is on the census as "Andrew Strack" with wife Emma, son John (b.RI) and dau Alice (b.Mass). This has been very frustrating. I don't know where he is for sure in 1930, but son John & dau Alice are in Chicago boarding with a woman named Nellie Knapp. Also boarding is an "Andrew Cole" age 42, divorced, plumber. I feel he is connected to John & Alice somehow. In 1900 this Andrew was probably the "Eli A. Cole" in Providence age 21, plumber. Is Eli A. Cole the same person as Andrew Strack??? Is there a connection between the Strack and Cole families somewhere? Any help would be fantastic.

He married Emilie Staub. They lived at 2131 Hatmaker in Lower Price Hill. The site now is an old parking lot. The George to whom I am referring is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Section 122 Lot 27 next to Emilie. Jacob Mayer was given a purse by Napoleon, as one of about 7 personal bodyguards. If my memory serves me correctly, from a newspaper article shown to me long ago, that purse later was donated to the Cincinnati Art Museum. The rest of the story is that Jacob actually fled with his wife the night before Napoleon's capture. By my recollection, they had several children, Henriettta, Louella, Ethyl, Barney (probably Barnard), along with my grandfather William James Strack (b. July 25, 1896). On William's birth certificate his mothers name is given as Amelia, but the stone at the cemetary says Emilie. William married Helen Uth. They had two daughters, Willa and Joy. Joy was my mother. Please let me know if this helps, and what else you might know. Thank you. Chris

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZAQBAEB/59 Message Board Post: I have very little information on this line of my family, the info below is from a distant cousin who was researching this family years ago: "Jacob Mayer was born 1787 in Alsace-Lorraine, his occupation was stonemason, he was a body-guard of Napolean Bonaparte and fought in the battle of Waterloo. Jacob came to America (date unknown), settled in Allentown, PA where in 1818 at age of 32 he married Henrietta Caporana who was born in the Rineland. They became the parents of 13 children, 3 of which died in infancy. They came down the Ohio river in a flatboat to Cincinnati. Jacob died (date unknown) and is buried in St.Joseph German Cemetery, Price Hill. Grandmother, Barbara Mayer Strack, was one of the surviving 10 children. The descendants of Jacob settled in St.Joseph, MO and in Cairo, MO. A son, Henry, settled in Sedalia, MO." I am descended from Jacob and Henrietta's daughter, Barbara, who married Simon Strack who was born in France. Barbara and Simon Strack had (to my knowledge) 5 children: Jacob b 11-16-1862, Marian b 2-1856, Odelia b 9-1858, George who d 1-10-1937, Frances b 2-9-1866. All born in Cincinnati, OH. As Simon was reported to of died in an accident in 1868, I have found Barbara as head of household in 1870, 1880 and 1900 census. If this rings any bells for anyone I would be most grateful for any help. Thank you. Karen in CA
