Looking at the 1850 census, enumerated in October for New York in Steuben in Orange Co on page 286 I found: Joseph D Stowell, age 28, Shoemaker, born in Connt. Betsey Stowell, age 23, born NY Clark J Stowell, age 4, born NY George Stowell, age 1, born NY Only other fellow under the name of Joseph Stowell shown as born in CT was aged 36 and also a Shoemaker. Wife Caroline (middle initial H?) age 25 born MS. Daughters Lauretta (looked like that name) age 8 born MS and Frances E age 6 born MS. Found him in 1850 census enumerated November 9th for IL for Bureau in Berlin Co, page 192. I didn't find him in my Stowell CD btw. Hope this helps!!
