I agree that Eliphalet is quite an uncommon name. Since I only learned about him yesterday, I will have to process all of this and see what makes sense. If only census records prior to 1850 gave us some more significant information! I will let you know if I find anything of interest, but it sounds like the STOWELL family has been looked into long before me, and probably more thoroughly. Thanks! [BTW...1840 census has 50-60 yo white male in GRC STOWELL HH in Madison Co., NY; this is probably Eliphalet, also; birth date 1780-1790, which agrees with the 1850 census.]
