    1. Re: Elias Phineas STOWELL
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Stowell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QAQBAEB/27.28.54.178.183.184.186.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The source for Eliphalet's birth is the Stowell Genealogy published in 1922 by William Henry Harrison Stowell. I have it as abt 1775 in Abington. I do not think he would have been born in Vermont as his parents Samuel(my 5g grandfather) and Hannah Lambert only lived in Massachusetts. “He lived at Fort Hill St., Hingham, Weymouth (1763), Abington (1773), Bridgewater (1794), and Plainfield." This is from the same source mentioned above about his father Samuel Stowell. It is possible that I have him with the wrong parents as there are some errors in the Stowell Genealogy. If it is correct it would go Eliphalet5, Samuel4, Samuel3, Samuel2, Samuel1 on the Stowell side. Eliphalet was married either in Ashfield or in Plainfield which would make me think Samuel is his father as most of Samuel's children ended up in Hampshire County. Samuel Stowell died in Plainfield. Eliphalet probably moved to New York by 1813/1814. Eliphalet's wife was Sybyl Rogers, a descendent ! from a Rogers on the Mayflower I believe. Her family was from Ashfield. Her father was Gershom Rogers and her mother was Abigail King. Now that I think of it, I always wondered where his name came from as his siblings have such common names like Abigail, Caleb, and David. Could it be possible that we have Eliphalet Phineas with the wrong parents? We probably need to check the Abington Vital Records to see if we can find his birth there to confirm it. I do have his marriage from the Ashfield Vitals and from Shepperd's Cummington and Plainfield marriages.
