His wife, Eleanor, was the daughter of Lester Stowell as you mention. James was living in Wisconsin in 1850, but apparently traveled back to NY to marry the sister of his lifelong friend, Truman Stowell. James and Eleanor are found in the 1860 census in Cattaraugus County, NY. They quickly moved to Wisconsin, and stayed there until moving to Livingston County, MO, around 1871 or 1872.
