In Braintree, (Norfolk Co.)MA town records, 1782, Warren Stowell of Bridgewater and Mary Kingman of this town filed their intent to marry. The New England Genealogical Historical Society has on their website: Warren Stowell married Mary Kingman 27 Feb. 1782, Brockton, Plymouth Co., MA, church record, Fourth Church of Christ of Bridgewater, now the First Congregational Church of Brockton. I had thought if Eliphalet was Warren's son, that he was probably the oldest. On the positive side -- Eliphalet runs with being an odd name as does Alpheus! 1800 Cummington, Hampshire Co., MA, page 880 Warren Stowel 1 male under 10 1 male 26-44 1 female 26-44 This son would fit the unnamed son you mentioned born c. 1790. There is a Seaman's Protection Certificate Register database that has: Alpheus Stowell born Braintree, MA age 30 issued 03/31/1815 Customs district: New Haven Port Certificate #21 This would fit Alpheus Stowell - born Braintree where Mary Kingman was from and born about 1785, after their marriage in Feb. 1782. Do you have any more info on Alpheus? There seems to be quite a few errors in the Stowell Genealogy, especially regarding Eliphalet. There are a couple of other Stowell's that were in Madison and Jefferson Co., NY area. An Enoch Stowell that seems to be from NH and then an Oliver Stowell in Antwerp (Jefferson Co., NY). There was also an Oliver Stowell in the 1800 Grenwich, Hampshire Co., MA census that had male's in his household of the age of Eliphalet.
