I'm hoping if I can find her with her Mother and Fathers names I can get a birth certificate for her. After that, maybe I can find a marriage certificate and finally find her! Her name, according to the baptism records of my Father, is Marion Elliott. If anyone finds her, please send me the info via my email at [email protected] Thank you in advance! 2. Liane & Starr Elliot
    3. I believe I have posted this before, but according to my Mother, Starr (Stowell) Elliot, there is a twist to the Samuel getting to America story. I know that our Stowell version of things is in the minority, but it's something to think about since it's been passed down for so long. According to this verbal history, Samuel was a stowaway. It was understood by me that Samuel was a young boy, possibly a teen, at the time. However the birthdate of Samuel varies and I'm unsure which is the correct one. Not even sure if the book on the family history is correct since folks sometimes misremembered birthdays or purposefully changed them in order to marry. Being older than when this verbal history was told to me, I find it ironic that Samuel would stow away to get to America since his last name is Stowell. Guess he stowed well indeed! 2. I have always been under the impression that my ancestor Samuel Stowell and his future wife Mary Farrow sailed to Hingham, MA, from England with the Hobart family. The year was 1632. I would stand corrected. 2. Stowell, Matt
    3. I have an Enoch Stowell (b. 16Jul1740 in Newton, MA) who married a Sarah Field on Sept. 12, 1765 in Winchester, New Hampshire. Enoch died 1829 in New Woodstock, NY. I have the following for Enoch, Sr: "Was in the French and Indian War. Was in the Revolutionary War. Was a Corporal in Capt. Francis Towne's Company, Col. David Gillman's Regt. December, 1776 reinforced Fort Ticonderoga. Was in Capt. Oliver Capron's Co., Samuel Ashley's Regt in 1778 to reinforce Fort Ticonderoga. Lt. Enoch Stowell was one of a committee, 5 Feb 1781, to raise soldiers in Winchester, NH. Became a Captain and commanded a company from New Hampshire." The only child that I currently have for him is an Enoch, jr. born in 1768 in Winchester, New hampshire. I have this for Enoch, Jr.: "He moved to Lebanon, NY, in 1792 lot 7 in north part of town. When he was 21, he accompanied the family of Jonathan Bates(Vermont) to the wilderness of Madison Co., NY. They were the first settlers in the Town of Lebanon. Enoch put up a log cabin in the wilderness. Years later he built a frame house. This he later replaced with a house of stone." Hope this helps. -Matthew Harrison Stowell _______________________________________________________________________________ From: [email protected] on Mon, May 19, 2003 9:06 AM Subject: [STOWELL-L] Re: looking for any info on STOWELLs To: [email protected] This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
