Some years ago, I used to do many lookups for listers. No , book doesn't much hard evidence of sources for many records, except the earlier generations where there are scattered references to wills, land, service records, etc, some with governmental designations you could research. There is always some biographical material with the major subjects and good cross referencing indexes and table of contents. Dave

If you can do a lookup without too much trouble that would help me. I'm considering purchasing the book. Does it give good references to hard records like land, census, vital records?
I wonder if these are originals or the 1970 reprint. I was able to purchase in the mid 1970s one of the 1970 reprints for under $30. Now I wish I'd purchased more than one. I have been unable to contact a Regina Profitt on-line, she claims to have excerpts from a Samuel Stowell genealogy book and to have information leading back to England for Sam's ancestors. Tim

Have you been able to learn anything prove or document that the marvelous Samuel Stowell lineage is true? I have all the names and dates, but little documentation. A Regina Profitt mentioned a book about Samuel Stowell and much information about his ancestors in England. Do you know anything of this? I have not been able to contact Regina.

There is nothing wrong and some advantages to buying a brand new copy of the book if one is available. HOWEVER, the paper in the original was acidic and the original copy in our library is in horrible condition. For someone who wants the book for extensive use, rather than as a collectors item, I would consider purchasing a reproduction. Obviously the use and availabiity will figure in to what one eventually buys. It is amazing to think that originals might still be available! I am getting annoyed that one one responds to an individual posting a message to various rootsweb lists that the message turns out to not be delivered. If one want to use the lists, why don't they supply valid email addresses? Here is what I wrote for the rejected message re Samuel Stowell and where to get the Stowell genealogy: You may find the book in public libraries and it can be purchased from www.higginson.com for about $150 for a reproduction copy, which is what I have. There is one person on the Stowell list (or at least was in the past) who typed the book into a database with some more recent additions and was selling the cd for a rather reasonable cost. Perhaps he will respond if he is still subscribed.
