My husband gave me a small key that goes to a clock, I think, that had the name A. Stowell on it because my maiden name is Stowell. This is the inscription on it: First side: A. Stowell & Co. 24 Winter St. Boston Other side: Fine Watches and Jewelry I thought this info might help someone. Happy Holidays Liz Parmalee Knoxville TN
I was looking for something else and ran across items with the name Stowell in them for sale on eBay. One item was a sardine fork by A. Stowell & Co. The is also a pocket watch by what appears to be the same company located in Boston. Actually a quite attractive watch. Anyways, I thought I'd pass it along. I do think he is connected to your Trueman Stowell somehow. His daughter Eleanor Stowell traveled with this family to Wisconsin then ended up in Livingston Co., Misouri. She was married to a James Harley Fuller, somewhere between New York, Wisconson, and Misouri. I would like to hear from you. Bcorbett

My son is not a researcher, so he went there to please his mom!!! The house was occupied so he didn't want to be intrusive. That's why all of the pictures are from a little distance. I also included one that he took of the Old Ship Church. He said that he was told the brick is from a remodel in the early 1900's, and the red trim was newly painted. And the pictures were taken in the fall of 1995, not 1999. Jeanne

He was directed to an address on Hill Street and told it was the Stowell House, and he took pictures of it, although it has been modified from it's original condition I would suppose. There was a plaque on the corner of the house identifying it.

I will instead copy and poste what was just returned to me from what I believe was Liz's posting. There appear to be about 60 Joseph STOWELLs in the WHH Stowell genealogy. Some of them had middle names, so if you know his, that would help someone in searching. To see if anyone connects, it would be helpful to give more details about when and where Joseph lived, names of wife or children or other family information, etc. if known. I suggest you join the STOWELL list which is quite active and post a message giving as much information as possible and see if someone can connect to your Joseph. The single line responses from the messages boards don't allow the list members to be of much help. To subscribe to the STOWELL list send an email to [email protected] and put ONLY the word subscribe on the subject line and in the body of the message. To post after joining, send your email to [email protected] I hope someone can connect to your family. Do join the STOWELL list so you get the replies. And do make sure you have a working email address so you get responses as some people prefer to respond privately rather than to an entire list.. I recently came across information that said it was partially burned about 1930. I believe that a Mrs. Lincoln owned the house and intended to preserve it by moving it to her property. There is a picture of the home in the Stowell Genealogy. Does anyone know of the story of the original house?

These go to about 1850. These records are on microfilm by town and in one large alphabetical index. The original cards that were microfilmed are in the Connecticut State Library in Hartford. Obviously not everyone was recorded, but you may find some STOWELLS that are not in the genealogy.
