I've "rescued" two old photographs which I believe both belong to the STOWELL Family of Pennsylvania. The first is a photograph of Clara STOWELL which was taken at the Thos. Baker Studio in Burlington, New Jersey. The photograph was taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Clara appearing to be in her teens at the time. The second photograph is unidentified, however, the woman in this second photograph looks very similar to Clara. The second photograph is of an older woman, probably in her 50's, taken at the H. J. Thein Studio in Newark, NJ sometime in the 1880's. Based on limited research I was able to locate the family in census records as follows: 1870 census of Burlington, NJ: Charles STOWELL, age 45, a Shoemaker, born NJ Elizabeth STOWELL, age 42, Keeping House, born England Lizzie STOWELL, age 18, born NJ Henry STOWELL, age 16, born NJ Frank STOWELL, age 14, born NJ Clara STOWELL, age 7, born NJ Cortlandt STOWELL, age 3, born NJ 1880 census of Burlington, NJ: Charles STOWELL, age 56, born NJ, a Policeman, father born NH Elizabeth STOWELL, wife, age 53, born England, parents born England Frank STOWELL, son, age 23, born NJ, a Cain Maker Clara STOWELL, dau, age 17, born NJ, at Home Courtland V. STOWELL, son, age 13, born NJ, attends School Nathaniel L. STOWELL, Father, a widower, age 87, born NH, a Retired Gardner, parents born NJ/England Joseph BLAIR, other, age 68, born NJ, a Tailor, parents born NJ Joseph HAYS, other, age 56, born NJ, a Policeman I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photographs can be returned to their rightful place, with family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I would like to find out about Armina (Stowell) Wilsey's obituary. I am a ggggrandson of Dr. Hiram Stowell of DeWitt, Clinton Co., Michigan, and am trying to find his parents. Armina and David came to Michigan prior to 1840, perhaps in a 17 person group in 1836 - 1837 from New York. There is confusion as to Armina's parents, as the Stowell genealogy book says she was born to Dr. Calvin Stowell and his first wife Polly. Armina's birth was in 1809, and Polly is reported to have died in 1804. Calvin married his 3nd wife Lucy Bramhall abt. 1815. Due to family circumstances I have been unable to work much on my genealogy projects in the past couple years, but am now hoping to get back to work on some of my families that appeared unsolvable in the past. Persis STOWELL (1766-1839) was the daughter of Hezekiah STOWELL (1732-1802) and Hepzibah Persis RICE. Persis married John CRAWFORD probably in Chenango Co. NY about 1790. Their daughter Persis Crawford married William PIKE of Colesville, Broome, NY in 1819. I am still searching for information on the family of John CRAWFORD & Persis (STOWELL) CRAWFORD who had about 11 children. John Crawford was alive in 1815 when he and Persis deeded land to their son Joseph in the Afton/Bainbridge, NY area. Persis (Stowell) CRAWFORD died in 1839 and is buried in Afton, NY next to children Abigail and John who died as young adults. There are a number of STOWELL graves adjoining these. A sister of Persis, Betsey CRAWFORD, married Amos WILMOT and died about 1878 in IL. They lived in Sparta, Knox, Illinois. She also had a sister Rebecca who may have married James SHULL and may have lived near Betsey (Crawford) WILMOT. Levi CRAWFORD of Bainbridge may have been related; Andrew CRAWFORD that lived in Broome Co., NY may also have been related to John and Persis (Stowell) CRAWFORD. Jane Crawford was probably a sister and married Charles Lee GRINNELL who had first been married to Sally STOWELL, sister to Persis Stowell. Would like to exchange information with anyone researching these related families. These CRAWFORDs disappeared from Chenango Co. NY about 1840-50. Did they move to another State? Midwest? South? Some of the STOWELL relatives were lumberman in Wellsboro, Tioga, PA. Margaret Scheffler
Yesterday I received a message saying I was subscribed to the STOWELL rootsweb list, but my attempted posted message came back "delivery has failed". It also happened when I sent a note to [email protected] trying to ascertain the problem. I will try this and if it goes through will repost. Margaret Scheffler

The Stowell Genealogy book does not follow Anna & does not give her husband`s name but I believe she is the Anna Covey who m. William Snow, as mentioned in your other messages.
