The following obituary appeared in the April 13, 1996, edition of The World (Bend, Oregon): At his request, no services will be held for Maxwell Joseph Stout, 82, of North Bend. He was born 1 May 1913, at Tacoma, wA and died 10 Apr 1996 at his home at North Bend. Mr. Stout was an appraiser for the Coos County Assessor's office, retiring in 1982. In the 1930s and early 1940s he lived in the San Francisco Bay area. He spent several years as a merchant seaman, traveling to South America and Oriental ports of call. During World War II, he worked in the San Francisco shipyards repairing military vessels. He married Margaret Coupe in 1933, and in the mid-1940s their family moved to the Lebanon area. It was at Lebanon that he worked in farming, logging, cattle raising and as a real estate broker. He moved to North Bend in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Anna Jones Stout of North Bend, whom he married in 1976; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dave Tacy of Bend; sister and brother-in-law, Vesta and Milt Hansen of Fresno, Ca; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Alan Maxwell Stout. The family suggests memorial contributions to South Coast Hospice, 371 W. Anderson Ave., Suite 218, Coos Bay, 97420.
