The following obituary appeared in the August 14, 2001, edition of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls (Iowa) Courier: WATERLOO- Sybil Zarifis, 81, of West Covina, Calif., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Aug. 10, of a massive stroke. She was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Iowa Falls, daughter of James and Effie Stout. She married George Zarifis on Oct. 26, 1937, in Waterloo. He died Jan. 30, 1991. Survived by: two sons, James W. of Temple City, Calif., and David of Covina, Calif.; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services: Thursday, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Covina Hills, Calif.
