The following obituary appeared in the November 26, 2001, edition of the Knoxville (Tennessee) News-Sentinel: STOUT, Amanda Lynn Howard - age 38, a loving wife and mother, departed this life Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospice, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. And even through this long ordeal of pain and suffering, she never lost her faith in God. She would always thank Him for one more day, as He was in the process of preparing a place for her. She left a void in this family that cannot be filled. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Preceded in death by Aunt, Betty Williams, and nephew, Emanuel Darnell Howard. Survived by husband, Ricky A. Stout; daughters, Turkea Gipson and Attallah Stout; son, Ricky S. Stout; father, Emanuel (Barbara) Howard; mother, Mary (Granville) Jett; mother-in-law, Nellie Stout; sisters, Cherlyn Thomas, Darlyn Howard, Barbara (David) Williams, Betty (Donald), Gilmore, Valencia (Phil) Smith, and Margie (Treavor) Warren; aunts, Della Jean Stone and Marjorie Clemons, and a host of step brothers and sisters to include Ralph, Freddie, Maurice, and Francine McGhee, and Granville Jett, Jr.; brother-in-law, Daniel Stout, and a host of nieces and nephews. Devoted cousin, Katherine Brown; cousins, the Brinson, Williams, Clemons and Smith Family; devoted friends, Catherine Locke, Karen Turman, Angela Brooks, Christine Barton Sutton and Harold A. Locke and family. Thank you Dr. B. Bruce Avery, M.D., FACP and staff of Hematology-Oncology of Knoxville, Bill Robinson, Clinical Social Worker, St. Mary's Health Systems, Nurses 3C St. Mary's Hospital, Nurse Sherry Huling and Neishia White, Becki Cox and St. Mary's Hospice Staff. Thank you Mama Nellie Stout, nephew, Emmanuel Hinton, Marsha Fender and Auntie Tonya for helping us with our kids and Golden Gate Church, and Victory View Baptist Church for their support. The family will assemble at 1700 Jefferson Ave. Graveside services to be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. , Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Lyons View Pike, Rev. Dexter Jordan officiating.
